I'm 17 years old so basically I'm still in the process of growing I'm wondering if squats will stunt my growth and is it bad for my back? Cause I really want to build my quads and hamstrings.

I dont know if its just me but i feel that during the course of doing squats i actually grew taller. i'm 14 this year.

i've had to do squats since i was in football my freshman year of high school and i reached what i believe to be a normal height of 5'10". so the answer is a resounding no.

General "consensus" is that it does not stunt your growth, but that's only because science cannot prove it yet, science is a very limiting factor in the application of things and just because science can't prove it doesn't necessarily mean it can't be proven altogether. Sometimes science just hasn't found a way to prove it yet.
my example, I am only 5ft 11, but both my grandpa and grandfather and my dad are well over 6ft, my mom's not a shorty either . I've been squatting since I was 15 so who knows what effect it had actually had on me.
