Just make bigger and bigger circles while you get experience. Eventually you make circles that are a couple of days or weeks riding.

While it will no doubt be lots of fun, I got it to do chit with. Don’t care about speed or wheelies or any of that. Got an ADV bike, but I kinda approach it with the sensibilities of a heavy duty, load bearing scooter, in terms of utility. Gets me and my stuff where I need to go. Only reason I even decided to get a bike was because of how well ADV bikes matched with what I wanted functionally (and looks) wise; if they weren’t a thing I doubt I’d even want to ride in the first place.

If anyone in/around Boston sees a total noob (I took the course but still) on a white Suzuki V-Strom 650, it’s probably me.
    fuk man

What dealer you get the bike at? Is it used or new?? You get all the right gear too>?

I am in Malden. I am playing on doing some group rides this spring (maybe 5-7 people, mixed experience).

PM me info and I will keep in touch.

Need it to warm up more. Have to get funds to put new rubber on the ride. Probably doing brake pads and bleed myself. Might do coolant change when I do the oil and filter.

on a semi-related note, are these two tubes supposed to be hanging out like that? (near rear break)

Nice ride @wazooty yeah the tubes are probably to let something breath, I wouldn't worry about it. Take it slow when you start out, nothing worse than laying down a new bike.

Ended up doing a lot more than expected, went onto some busier two lane roads, went to the grocery store using google maps just cuz I could. Felt way more comfortable after an hour of slow stuff than expected. Filled up on gas. Stalled a few times but nowhere dangerous. Went maybe 40 for a stretch at most. Forgot to pull the clutch before shifting from 2 to 1 a couple times. I've plenty of experience driving regular vehicle so interacting with cars was not a problem. Checked all directions of all intersections before going through. I'm still a bit lazy about getting up to speed. Though, speed signs seem to be extremely rare around here.

Can't wait to do it more tomorrow. I almost feel like I need some places to go. Don't want to go into Boston proper yet. Might go up the coast of East Boston (where I live) out past revere and the like. Might wait until Sunday, looks like it's going to be nice.

Stop by, I'll lube your chain.

With intersections just slow down before entering them, you lessen impact speed if someone decides to turn in front of you.

Yeah those tubes are breathers or overflows. They are supposed to be there.

Anyways, I'm about done mindlessly farting around. If ya want someone to ride into the sunset while listening to Bon Jovi with, I'm down. I've passed so many pairs/groups of riders I get jealous being all alone.

Took a ride a few weeks ago, but the batteries on both bikes weren't really holding a charge. Luckily it snowed here last weekend, so I took the opportunity to swap out the batteries and get everything charged up.

Now I am just waiting for the rain to stop.

I don't think I've taken more then a week or two off of riding in the last year. (Louisiana weather lulz). Even when it gets as cold as possible here within 4 or 5 days it warms up again to ride-able weather.

I take the same route into work every morning and there are about half a dozen brah's that commute to work year round on a bike. Rain or not. Cold or not. Even if there is a bit of ice on the road they still on their bike.

Motorcycling is driving a motorcycle. For some humans, motorcycling can be the handiest low-cost form of character motorized transportation, and small-displacement motorcycles are the most common motor vehicle in the most populous countries, consisting of India, China, and Indonesia.

In developing international locations, bikes are overwhelmingly utilitarian because of lower fees and more gasoline economy. Of all bikes, 58% are inside the Asia Pacific and Southern and Eastern Asia regions, apart from vehicle-centric Japan.

Motorcycles are in particular a luxurious top in advanced countries, wherein they're used usually for pastime, as a way of life accessory or an image of private identification. Beyond being a mode of motor transportation or game, motorcycling has ended up a lifestyle and way of life. Although especially a solo activity, motorcycling may be social and motorcyclists have a tendency to have a sense of community with each different.

    Hey guys,

Picked up my first bike yesterday. I'm new to riding. I grabbed A 2013 CBR 250r in all black. Loving the bike so far even thought I'm still getting stuff together to get my endorsement. What you guys think for a new rider?

My very first bike was custom Harley Davidson chopper. It had radically modified steering angles and lengthened forks. It also had custom paintwork so it was like everyone's favorite bike on the street when I was riding it. Five years later I bought a custom BMW in the United Kingdom from the thecustommotorcycle.co.uk/custom-motorcycles-for-sale shop. Now I cannot imagine my life without this motorbike. It was kind of strange experience when I changed my chopper to this massive bike, but it's power and appearance are worthy of. I think that I'm never going to sell it. It is like a part of our family now!

Thought I'd join in since I'm gonna enter the club in 2/3 weeks or so..
Just got my license and currently trying out multiple bikes.. Had a shortlist of what I'd like to try and maybe buy
    - Ducati Monster (797/821) (2017/2018 models)
    - Yamaha MT-09 SP (2018 Model)
    - KTM 790 Duke (2018 Model)
    - Kawasaki Z900 Performance (2019 Model)

Rode all for tests but the MT-09 at this point, got that planned for wednesday.
Can safely say that the Ducati will not make the cut because it's just to small (I'm 6'4, 230lbs) and the 797 seems to be lacking the power, so I'd have to get a 821 which significantly increases the costs over here. Kinda sucks because I like the looks of it.

At this point I'm really torn between the KTM and the Kawa.. Both are very different bikes (2cyl vs 4 cyl) but both have their appeal to me.. Kawa just rides smoothly and has plenty of power it seems with a smooth build-up, but the KTM has that low-end RPM punch that makes it real fun in/out of corners.. But I can see it getting a bit uncomfortable for longer rides on highways etc.

Anyone here has some more experience with either of these bikes (including the MT-09 as well for now) with points that I should be aware of?

    Thanks already!

I can't wait to start my MSF course

I'll probably get a early 2000's Rebel 250 for starters. Or maybe start on a Honda Grom clone or something haha. They're pretty cheap, my budget is low.

Not a fan of grinding away on the highway at 70mph for 7 hrs, but I have 5 days off and plan on visiting the relatives.

Any advice for highway travel? Ways to stay alert? I could see myself doing about half the trip on the highway and the rest off as I’m in no rush. Just to keep from getting bored.

Make absolute use of Rest Areas to stretch and stay hydrated.

Do highway in the morning when you are more alert, get off the highway in the afternoon when you are less alert. I really only try and use the highway when I have, as it is pretty boring riding. The exception to this is cities. Basically got to suck it and get on the highway to plow through, or to your destination in a major metropolitan area. A twenty minute drive and can be an hour of hot stop and go traffic otherwise.

Expect to literally double the time it takes in a car, a three hour car ride is seven. You just have to stop and drink water, take breaks, no real choice in the matter.

Red bull and aspirin, both have got me home after really long days riding.

Long sleeves, nothing drains you like sunburn.

Make sure you have rain gear, and change into it at the first sign of bad weather. You will more than likely have to ride through bad weather, being soaked sucks.

Expect to feel really stiff after the first day, and then catch your groove.

Full face helmet, or touring helmet. I know a lot of guys that don't do it, but I do, makes you a lot less tired.

This is key. Think about wearing a jacket on the highway. You can dehydrate and chap from hot wind running over you.

If I rode from Sand Diego to Vegas in July, I still wore a leather jacket and chaps. It was already hot and at 80 the wind evened it out.

But if you dehydrate, you'll get tired and careless. Don't get hurt.

This may sound weird, but stretch. Stretching made the difference between me stopping every 40 minutes due to being too sore to sit.

    Thanks for the advice lads.

Went better than expected. 450 miles each way, 2.5 gas stops and another stop or two to stretch. Got caught in an absolute downpour at the top of a mountain range, only lasted 5 minutes as I lost altitude but got absolutely drenched, no time to put rain gear on or anything. felt like hail at times. 18 wheelers kicking up tons of rain and visibility going to heck was fun. Dried off as I rode, not a big deal. Woulda sucked if it was perpetual and not just because I was basically in a cloud.

And yeah, that "70mph" I was assuming I'd stay at average closer to 80. Not great on the gas mileage and I don't really like how grindy the engine sounds at those rpms but it worked.

Just got my first bike with 0 miles and put the first 12 miles in yesterday night after school. My rear slipped for a second when I gave it a little too much throttle on a turn and I've never puckered my azz that hard in my life lmao. I remained calm and everything went fine tho. I fukin suck but I'm gonna practice my azz off.

I just took my CSMP up her in Red Bluff this last weekend. It was awesome. Went to DMV and took the little questionnaire test and got my license. Man it feels so good to be riding 100% legit. Im pretty new to riding motorcycles though so I'm learning.

    strong boston presence itt

scooter was stolen back in october and i picked up a non-running replacement but haven't got it sorted out yet - bummed i havent done any riding at all since i usually ride year round

the theft also kind of ruined the big bike for me - ive just got it laid up inside because i cant stand to think of losing that one too

scoot was a 2005 honda metropolitan ii, bought for $500 from my old boss with around 3,200 miles in 2013 and rode it to just under 20,000 miles by the time it was stolen in 2019, only ever had to do oil, plug, tires

new scoot is a 2002 honda metropolitan ii, bought for $500 in non-running condition with 1,400 miles a couple months ago - guy i bought it from had it foisted on him by the guy who couldnt fix it, i bought it originally thinking that itd be a simple fix and the solution is proving more elusive than expected. at the time i was back and forth between an old vespa smallframe that was available and just replacing the stolen scoot, initial investment in the vespa wouldve been greater but i probably wouldve been happier in the long run considering aftermarket options. id be more willing to consider parting with a full size bike if i had a scooter that was more fun to ride than a simple tng auto (i was fortunate to rip a friends modded vespa in bulgaria a few years ago and it absolutely topped the fun factor and was quicker than anything else id ever been on)

big bike is 2012 ktm 250 xc-w, 2 stroke in motard trim, my 3rd supermoto (had aprilia sxv550, ktm450 smr) and by far my favorite big bike ever, firm believer in 2 stroke > all

my truck is clapped out, and im going to need to either do some major work or replace it soon, so need to really sort out the 2 wheel situation so that i can deal with that

taking mcat april 4th though so theres not a whole lot of wiggle room in the schedule to keep fiddling with the stupid honda... wah wah wah wanna ride sum bieks

    edit: bikes as they sit

Nice group of San Diegans ITT.

Anyways, I had a 1980 Honda CM400 Cafe Racer. I liked it but I had to part ways. It was great riding on the streets and got lots of compliments. On the freeway, it wasn't that fun. Going 55 MPH was about as safe as I felt because it felt as the bike was not heavy enough to keep up with the blow of the air. Sold it several years ago and now I'm looking for a Harley. When I buy one, I'll post a pic of it.

Between COVID, Business and Family haven't had much time these days. Finally got the bike out today. I have one bike with a bad battery, I got chase down. Probably just have to break down and buy the battery.

The other one I finally got to start, and managed to steal forty five minutes for a quick ride in the sunshine. Feels good mane...
