Toyota bros: should I buy a Tacoma now or wait?

Unsure if there will be a redesign in the next year or so.

Not a great buyers market right now yet. Supply not keeping up with demand, some areas selling for a premium over msrp. I bought my 2019 off road fall of 2019, and it’s worth several thousand more now than what I paid. Love the truck though. Take some test drives see how you like it. OR is the best value to features (larger rear differential, locker, crawl control), pros have a few more things like hood scoop and 1” lift with fox shocks, but not worth the premium price imo.

They got insane leases on Tacos right now, check into that so when the redesign comes out you can trade out or buy. Also, you have to go back, with covid.

I am a big Toyota fan (3 tundras, two Tacomas, and a 4R), and currently drive a Platinum Tundra and wife has a 4Runner Pro.

I feel the 4R is a much better vehicle than the Tacoma. If you aren’t 100% needing a real pick up bed, you can still fit a ton inside a 4R.

With that said, if I were to get a midsize truck today it would be a Ranger Tremor with the eco boost.

And if I’m getting a more outdoor lifestyle vehicle, I’d go with a truck based SUV over a midsized truck. Then the answer is really easy, I’d get a new Bronco, even as a 2020 Pro 4R owner.

Bronco Sport right? Isn't the actual full-size Bronco unreleased?

Wait one year man. Maybe a little more but if you don't need a new car right now, just wait. Re-design is coming soon and the Tacoma is the kind of car you drive for 20+ years.

Not a Sport. I would wait till the full size to hit the dealers this summer.

Full size Bronco looks like the ultimate rig. Capability and customizable of a Wrangler, with the ease of driving the 4Runner, and light years more modern (interior, exterior, tech, motor, transmission, etc) than both. Can truly drive it to work all week, and then do real off roading on the weekend.

But back to the Tacoma, so many 3rd Gen Tacoma guys HATE the motor / transmission combo on it, and it doesn’t seem to have the reliability of previous generations. Seating position is awful as well. I do like the payload offered, as well as having the option of a crew cab AND full length bed. They do look sharp as well.

If you want a mid size truck, there are better options (Ranger and curious to see new Frontier).

If you don’t truly NEED a pickup bed, there are truck based SUV’s which are superior lifestyle / weekend rigs (4Runner and soon available Bronco).

If you truly need a pickup bed, then the value / performance / comfort / etc is much better in half ton trucks. Ford, GM, Ram, and Toyota all make fantastic half tons.
