This looks like the best place to ask this. I'm hoping to get my first motorcycle soon and was wondering what you guys would think would be a good fit, especially considering my size and the fact I've never ridden before. I'm looking at the 883 Low and Iron 883. What else is there that would be about the same style but at or under 8k?
Reps for any help/opinionsRIP Josh Mapp

stick with a metric bike
nothing against HD but you are buying 90% made in China bike with and American name stamped on it
quality is nowhere near as the Japs and reliability is nothing compared to the Japs
get a Jap bike, you get reliabilty, performance, and cheap.

First and foremost, you should take an MSF course. I took mine at the local Harley dealership and they provided you with motorcycles to learn on.
Once that's out the way, take a look at some of the metric brands. Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki all have cruiser models available at around $8k or less. Check out their websites, see which models appeal to you and then check them out in person.
I have a 2009 Yamaha V Star Custom that I bought new at around $7500.

Cool thanks. I know my local harley dealership has that course, didn't know they provide the motorcycles so that's good to know.
I was looking at the metric motorcycles last night, would you guys suggest something like the Rebel? I know it's a little undersized but then again so am I lol.RIP Josh Mapp

Dude, I'm 5'3 and 145 lbs. I ride an 1985 HD FXR.
Go with a jap bike for price, and reliability.
But I would never trade my Harley for anything other than another Harley. I love the ride, the sound, everything about it.
It's got a 80" 1340 Evo in it.
Get an 883 or 1200 sportster. Cheap to buy, even the newer models. Small and light. You can also customize the **** out of them
Good luck with whatever you purchase!,___,

my first bike, 1979 KZ1000ST...aka Mad Maxx bike, fastest production bike of 1979. i only had her for the summer of 2008 and had to sell her to pay off my car repairs. she was fat but damn she moved. kept up with my friends 05 ninja 600. id spin the tire if i cranked it, it'd also chirp the tire a bit if i shifted high...scared the sh!t out of me.
actually had a great nonreflective black paintjob on the entire thing, headers, mufflers, forks, cylinder fins, tank, fenders, everything. drag bars too obviously. weighed about 6-700lbs wet, took throwing my whole body into it to get it off the stand.
really hoping i can afford a new HD forty eight when they come out this yearLast edited by 89shaggy; 03-20-2010 at 02:19 AM.

Hey guys what do you pay for insurance for the year? I just got a new bike and it's about $70 more than my previous one. Apparently, I have a super awesome rate @ $350/ year (not making this up for misc. sake lol). The dealer I just bought my new bike from said he was paying like $500/ year on each of the bikes he owns.
