It's not like corroded or anything, it's just surface rust, it would easily come off with steel wool. It's not like I let the bike sit out over the winter or anything, but I guess it must be kinda humid in my garage for the chain to get like that.

id still be concerned.. The chain shouldnt rust if maintained...I had a bike that was left outside a whole winter with nothing more then a cover and not a spec of rust on the chain..If it were me Id just replace it and not have to worry about it...A broken chain can do serious damage to you and your bike

Rode the bike to school yesterday. Man, that was a risky trip. It was wet (which I can deal with) but it was super foggy. It was hard to see even 200 feet away! Felt good to get the cobwebs out though.

Just got a new jacket brahs:
Tourmaster Intake Series 2. It's got a 2-in-1 liner (removable), waterproof/ windproof, and it fits nicely. I will definitely be riding a lot more despite the still-cold temps.Motorcycle riders: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=2981441

hey scoundrel...only rejet the carb if you have changed things such as exhaust or intake. if not, a simple adjustment of the air/fuel mixture screw may do the trick. you can check for vacuum leaks by spraying wd-40 or carb cleaner in an around vacuum lines while the bike is running. if the bike idles up, you have found a vacuum leak. hit me up if you have any more questions, ill see what i can help ya with.

learned the hard way about gravel today....ffffuuuuu
still learnung to turn good....was turning on a side road and caught gravel and it just went out sideways from under me
luckily my leg broke the bike's fall lol.... got a scratch on the rear taillight and thats about it. the back end was fully on top of my leg the entire time, so no paint scratches anywhere....fnt end i have forward controls with a little metal piece on the end since theyre long to avoid damaging them during hard turns, and that little metal piece took the front end,so nothing else touched the ground. no paint damage, nothing bent! very happy.... got back up and rode it home without issue
got a bit of roadrash on my forearm and knee, and a pretty nice cut on my ankle bone but otherwise just very sore leg lol.... also glad i only got a 550lb bike, i was able to lift it off of my foot and get up myself since noone was around
lessns learned (and i KNEW these, and even thought about it before going...but had about 20 min before the rain and decided to go around the block before the gym)
1) wear boots, not gym shoes
2) wear jeans, not workout pants
3) watch for gravel
feels bad man...but I'll be ok and bike's ok, so glad to get it out of the way and move on

^ "All the gear all the time" brah.
when i dropped my bike my leg broke its fall too haha good thing i had my motorcycle boots on, i felt my foot go a weird angle but i reckon my boots did a good job of stopping it actually doing any damage.
My stand turned up today, so i had a fiddle with that and its not as "scary" to use the first time as people say it is.
about to get my gear on and go for a spin for the first time in 2 weeks or so. bloody rain...

BPP... I always saw you as a pretty safety-conscious person, idk why. Were yoy wearing a helmet and jacket as well, or no?
At least you went down now rather than later.
I went out today- it was around dusk, so still some sunlight, but it was getting dark fast. I now realize that I should probably get some reflective tape to put on my new jacket. I have a black jacket and a black bike, so when it's dark out, people aren't gonna see me as readily.
btw, I have about $500 + my trade in for a bigger bike. I'm looking to get either a mid-80's Harley or a bigger cruiser (like a shadow or kawasaki vulcan). Do you guys have any suggestions as to what to get? My price range tops out @ 4000- looking for a cruiser greater than 600cc.
Happy riding!Motorcycle riders: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=2981441

Nice jacket man. I gotta get a new one, mine doesn't stop the wind for shiit. I have a removable liner also and it's still pretty cold even with a sweatshirt on underneath at like 60 degrees.
Anyway, glad to hear you didn't mess anything up too bad Bpp. Definitely gotta wear high-top shoes when you ride bro. Also, GLOVES. 90% of the time your hands are the first thing to hit the pavement, and will grind right to the bone. Gotta have em.*NY Yankees Crew*

THIS x 2. I'd try and get actual motorcycle gloves (as opposed to regular leather ones or whatever) because they have extra padding and are shaped so that your hands are bent much like you would hold the throttle.
That's where I got my jacket! I tried it on at a shop and the tag said it would be $230. I was like, "**** that noise!" and went online. Got it for $170. (including shipping)Motorcycle riders: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=2981441

thanks mate
Its wierd isnt it that youre more worried about damage to the bike rather than yourself. should be the other way round but im the same.
it sucks that gear isnt cheap and you need at least 2 sets for warm and cold weather. i spent a fair whack on summer gear just in time for the weather to go to **** haha. Current thing i need is some winter-ish glove, at least something warmer than the airmesh ones i have at the moment.
mine was the other way. spotted a jacket in the city for $160 and had the urge to get it but didnt... then couldnt find it for less than $200 anywhere else. dammit lolLast edited by freddy kruger; 03-11-2010 at 07:15 PM.

any tips on gloves? that i dont have
thanks bro... i was all excited to ride like 2 hrs my first day without even coming close to a dump..then this the next day lol
haha yeah, but the bike costs more to fix
yeah...were coming into spring/summer here so ill just get warm gear for now...worry about cold come fall!

Things to watch out for while riding a motorcycle :
Gravel, sand, leaves(especially wet leaves).. wet painted lines.. and just the painted lines even when they are not wet give less traction than asphault. Metal sewer covers, railroad tracks etc... especially when turning and while its wet out. I just dont ride in the rain, easily avoidable increased risk. Everyones stopping time , even cars etc is way higher and chances of a crash in rain are way higher.
I dropped my bike in my garage like the 3rd or 4th day i had it.. damn humidity and a painted garage floor = bad.
If it looks like this... be ridiculously careful, I was going like 2 mph and it slid out like it was ice.
You can see how going over the painted line while at lean probably caused loss of front tire traction in this case :
