Here is a list of stuff that is cheap and healthy
Oats, Rice, Chicken, Common Fruits, Ears of Corn, Soups, Yogurts, Bread
Not as healthy but still cheap
Pasta, Cereal, Deli meats, Raman Noodles, Frozen Pizzas
Of course you can add stuff to each of those to make them better.Patrick

whats so bad about whole grain cereals such as all bran or bran flakes? a great complex carb just like oatmeal.. some cereals have as good of protein carbs and fiber as oatmeal but people disregard them? whats the big deal... special k protein plus has 5g of fiber / 10g protein per serving and 1g of sugar 100 calories.. what is so bad abou that? oh and 1g of fat..
all bran has 5g of fat and 5g of protein per serving with 2g of sugar and 1g of fat at 90 calories..
other then that the foods listed above are perfect.. a body builder can live off tuna, chicken, rice, frozen veggies, pasta is cheap and calorie dense i like to stay away from it.. even tho im trying to do a clean bulk
but if worst comes to worst.. buy tupperware containers and fill them up at the local cafeteria.. that works for me in college.. dont forget some cottage cheese, peanut butter, and some olive oil.. get some fats too man

hey man, i spend between 40-60 bucks a week, and eat almost 4000 calories a day.
like most say it's about buying bulk. regardless, many of the best nutrient dense foods are very cheap. in an average trip to the grocery store i pick up the following: tuna, eggs, milk, cottage cheese, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, peanut butter (preferably natural), frozen veggies, frozen fruit, bananas, extra lean ground beef and golean cereal.

what everybody said above is really good for you, and also cheap. i got a job recently and am not taking any summer school so that i can focus on weight training and also buy a few extra things to boost my caloric intake. Make sure when you do buy, only get the off brand in most cases, like the off brand cottage cheese if you're shopping at Kroger. Also, shopping at wal-mart as opposed to Kroger or Publix is going to save you money anyhow and give you a wider selection. I try and use coupons, find things on sale, buy in bulk, and also, one of the best, try and buy frozen fruit for your smoothies, since the fresh fruit will be much more expensive !
