And still have a good chest. I dont have a spotter and I look like a chump benching 150 max.
Is it okay for me to use just machine weights on my chest and aviod free bench?

i wouldnt recommend just cutting out the barbell bench from your chest routine. it is the best mass builder for your chest. Db's are always a good substitute and you should jump over to them every now and then to keep things fresh. i am not a big fan of machines for the sake of putting on mass. i myself use them sometimes to target certain parts of the muscle but they they just dont work the muscles the same way free weight do. so i wouldn't reccomend relying on them significantly. you should never worry about what others think about the weight you put up. and if you are worried that the bar will crush you just do what hyp3r3xt3nsion said. use the rack, if you get tired and loose control of the bar the pins in the rack will save you from injury.

Don't worry about looking like a chump, everyone starts somewhere it is just good to be lifting. As far as spotters go, I don't lift with any of my buddies, but if I feel I need a spot I just ask someone in my gym while they are taking a break from their exercise.

Bump, everyone starts somewhere like invast said.
Now for reality. Don't worry about what anyone thinks of you in the gym. Just choose your spotters carefully. Some are arrogant, and the vast majority are nice people. So dont hesitate to ask for a spot. Better than trying to act like a tough guy and drop 150lbs on your chest, right hyp3r?http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html

What?!?! No way man. All powerlifters and ripped guys at the gym are born that way. It's genetics.

I don't have a spotter bc I workout at home in my basement. Instead, just build a couple saw-horses and set them at a height just below where you bottom out your press. This way if you can't get the weight racked you won't crush yourself.

I was just asking if there was any big issue between using dumbbells and barbells--thanks.
For chest development minus barbells there are plenty of things you can do.

I go to a gym. Mainly irregular intervals during the day, but pretty much 4 times a week. I'm just not a fan of everyone at the gym.
Not like they've actually done anything, just some guys and girls are just way too gone for me. Like the skinny guy who comes in and pretty much does curls at night, or the sickeningly curved and voluptuous woman that does some ridiculous squat/deadlift thing with a sumo stance with barely any weight. Others do seem to know exactly what the hell they're doing though.
I'm slightly intimidated by the big guys though, it's either a bunch of ignorant people, a bunch of huge guys, or a few intermediate people.
