Question How can people squat so much....

    Without really hurting their neck?

I'm very new to lifting, but 3 days ago I was checking to see what I could do for max squats, and I ended up with 260, which I know compared to most people here probably isn't much, but that's beside the point. That bar digging into my neck gave me some pain...Not excruciating or anything, but I can still feel sort of a bruise-like pain today. But what about people who are squatting 400? 500? 1000? I don't get it ;O

Cool, we both max at 260.

Just put the bar a little lower down. How much do you weigh?

you just kinda have to get used to it. for a while, i had the bar int he right place but it hurt like a bitch. so i put a lifting belt across my neck. worked great. one day, i just put the bar straight on my neck. (yeah i know traps lower neck whatever the hell you want to call it) and it just didnt hurt. maybe my traps were just more developed. but its all good now. and it feels alot better with the bar on your neck.

260 lb couldn't destroy your NECK and your life, that means your NECK is strong enough.

I solved my neck problem with building traps. If they are big enough then you can rest the bart across them and its like a shelf. They dont have to be huge but it helps when you squat 545 like me and your only like 5'7 162lbs.
Also you need to have good form to lift alot. I bumped alot when i changed my bad form. Look up chest up head up butt out. It makes you feel gayer then heck but it helps when you get up thier in weight.

Your traps have to be really strong when you squat 900 like I do though and you're 120 lb and like 5'2
