everyone has some kind of stigma attached to Arnold like he was weak or something, no doubt in my mind there will be atleast one person commenting in this thread saying hes bull****ting and he couldnt bench 500....when in reality a guy with like a 58" chest and 22" arms who weighed about 250 shouldnt be doubted on his lifts......

I know a guy who broke an australian record benching around that much and at the time he was much smaller then Arnold so yeah I don't doubt Arnold could have done it with the size of his chest and arms.
Bodybuilding is all about image not numbers, when you're up on stage your lifting stats and bodyfat % means nothing to the judges.

lets not forget he was a powerlifter for a time.
there is a pic of him deadlifting 700+lbs. And I think he is actually kinda young in the pic. Not the 250lbs you saw at his peak.
any 250lb+ bodybuilder should be moving some weight.I don't reply to PM's for sources. Read it again. I don't reply to PM's for sources. But I will forward it to a Mod.

arnold was a dedicated powerlifter in his younger years winning a fair few powerlifting contests.
he continued to do olympic lifting all the way through his career and beleived it was a very important part of developing a thick powerful look.
I read his auto biography and around the age of 19 after winning mr. europe he spent alot less time powerlifting. he apperently at one time did 50/50 bodybuilding and olympic lifting.
do not doubt arnold. he is the bollocks.Altius, Citius, Forcius...

Yeah most folks say that cus of Pumping Iron(which was filmed shortly after a horrendous knee injury in a freak posing accident where his leg fell throught the stage) but previous to that his legs were better. Look for some pics of him in 1974. That was his peak.
Oh and he did bench over 500 but said in his later Olympia years he lowered the weight and was getting away from powerlifting a little bit but still worked his way up to 405 or something but just did it with a lot less rest in between sets.
