Is it just me or is my friend a complete idiot?

My mate right, reckons it's better to do.. say 100 reps of 10kg curls than a weight you can only handle for ten reps and lifting the weight for ten reps.. I try to explain the effect of him overtraining his muscles.. but does he listen? No!

it depends what your going for. Doing the higher weight with the lower reps will help you gtet stronger. BUt the 100 reps will give you a bigger more defined look and will also increase your muscular endurance

it isn't overtraining.. research the actual difference between his training and yours and show him - sounds like you don't know yourself

BUt the 100 reps will give you a bigger more defined look
    i hope you are joking?

Wtf? 100 reps wont make you bigger im pretty sure of that, maybe some noob gains like everyone gets. Doing 10 reps of a weight which you can barely do 8 reps of, will tear the muscle and it will grow bigger and stronger. Lots of reps is just for toning a muscle it wont get bigger

It also doesn't help that he's a bit fat and because his arms are 2' bigger than mine.. Not defined at all.. He guesses he must be doing something right.. He also refuses to do military press because it's boring.. And the only shoulder exercise he does is lateral raises with 3 kg dumbbells for about 70 reps, because he finds them fun.

Just because I weigh 140 doesnt mean I dont know whats right and whats wrong. I used to be a frickin noob in February doing a bench press for 35 reps and I was wandering why I wasnt growing. I came to this forum and I was TOLD to lower the reps and to my surprise I GREW. 130-140 in 3 months.

Please can someone back me up and tell this guy that 100 reps will only give you slight noob gains and it will only tone up your muscles.

I honestly dont think if you weigh 140 pounds, you should be the one giving advice at all. And i especially think that when you weigh that little, you shouldnt have the rigt to argue with someone bigger and stronger than you are.

It doesnt matter what i do. Thats the magic of bodybuilding, everyone is different, and they all do their own thing, giving them their own results. In 2 years ive upped my bench from 120 to 250. I can row 280 pounds. I can lat pulldown 270 pounds. and all this when i weogh only 165 pounds. AS much as you think i dont know what im talking about i actually do. I go to college to become a personal trainer and i have plenty of personal experience. SO i thiink im going to stick withm my routine and my own opinion.

i weigh 175. you are wrong. throwing up like 10 pound dumbels 100 times will overtrain the muscles. youll get gains but theill be noob gains. doing light weight high reps applies to mabey 15-20 reps with light weight, no more then that. on a side note, if the kid does this he wont get strong and after the noob gains he wont have a foundation to build upon

Fair enough but im just still stunned how two people AGREE that 100 reps is the right thing to do.. Ok maybe it will get you stronger thats pretty obvious.. But bigger? I dont get how two people who have been on this forum for a while say that 100 reps is the right thing to do to get big?

Lets just forget it then ..

whoa whoa whoa.....nobody said doing 100 reps will get you stronger. Where are people getting this idea. The arguement started because i said doing 100 reps will give you a "bigger more defined look" and thats what people agree on. It is a know fact that to gain strength, higher weight and less reps is the ideal combination.

    WOAHHHHH

I know I'm only a noob to this but

    < 6 reps = strength
    7 - 14 reps = building muscle
    15 - 30 reps = endurance

100 reps = you might as well go jogging because you'll just burn off fat.

JPCbadboy and Jamie16 are saying the same thing, but i think Jamie is thinking JPC thinks 100 reps will make someone massive, when he is just saying higher reps = more defined look.
