I once saw a gay dude standing naked in the locker room in front of a mirror with a semi... What the actual fuk.

I swear a huge portion of the regular gym goers are clinically insane.

Here are a few things that irritate me:

    1) People who complain about being judged, but judge others because of their lack of knowledge. Such as complaining about 5-10 minute rest periods between sets. If you are training for strength, you take long rest periods. Hypocritical. Another example...someone in this thread complained about being judged, yet makes fun of people for flexing in the mirror after a set. As a bodybuilder then replied, perhaps they are judging how that exercise affected their pose. That is why some lift after all, to pose on stage.

    2) People who complain about people dropping weights. Sometimes it is not safe or possible to slowly lower heavy or max effort weights carefully all the way to the ground. Literally throwing or slamming the dumbells for no reason is different.

3)People who complain about people "blocking the mirror"....LOL...really? Are we in the gym to lift or to admire ourselves in the mirror? If championship power lifters and Olympic weightlifters can perform their sports without admiring themselves in the mirror, you can probably handle your 10 lb dumbell flies without them as well.

    4) People who complain about screamers. But only to a point...a loud grunt or a little yell to get psyched up for a lift is reasonable. Screaming at the top of your lungs for every rep...yes that would annoy me as well.

    5) People who complain about others hogging equipment, but don't have it in them to say "excuse me, mind if I work in with you during your rest periods?" and instead are infuriated and aggravated. Then they come onto the forums and complain. If you are not willing do to do something to change things, don't complain. Don't complain that the trainer came and took your mat. Tell him/her you are using it.

    6) The guy that says "So I go into the gym to use the Smith Machine.....", then proceeds to make fun of someones form for whatever exercise they are doing. Sorry, you are using a Smith Machine. Other than a few select exercises, this revokes your right to critique someone else.

    7) People that get overly irritated by people who don't always put their weights away. Let's face it...many people are either slobs, or have a mom who cleans up after them. If you go to a commercial gym and let this infuriate you, you are always going to be pissed off. People should re-rack their weights. Will everyone? No. Get over it. Or...do something about it(i.e. politely ask them if they are finished with the equipment and ask them to rack their weights). If you aren't willing to do this, you don't have the right to complain about it.

    Legitimate issues:
    1) Wipe off your sweaty bench/machine if you are sweaty. However, don't get bent about someone not doing it. Clean it yourself. This is more productive than being angry about it all the time.

    2) Be courteous of those lifting in regards to leaving enough room i.e. being inches from the side of the bar when someone is squatting etc. Again, have the courage to say "excuse me, I'd like to have some more room. This weight is too heavy to risk being bumped during my set." Taking this approach, you will almost always get a courteous response.

Honestly I have to say that I have lifted at quite a few commercial gyms since I travel a lot for work. I just don't see all the issues that so many people seem to always be so angry about. I think it is just a matter of perception and how you choose to react to things.

    Agree 100%

Originally Posted by NoChemicals View Post

I will list down a few things I find them EXTREMELY annoying and irritating. Please see below:

    1. Members throwing/chucking heavy dumbells after completing a set. Althought the gym floor is covered with rubber mats, I feel chucking the weights is very dangerous for other people because the weights might crash on their feet or something like that. What a bunch of inconsiderate monkeys, I remember one of the gym instructors politely told this jackass to put down the weights with cautious, and he got offended and told her that he did not need to waste his effort since he has completed his set. What an ass!

    2. Not putting weights back to its respective racks!!!!!! This really pisses me off a lot. Whenever I step into the free weight section, I see dumbells lyinig around on the floor and the racks are empty. This is really selfish of them. They want to save their strengths for subsequent sets; hence, choose to neglect the weights they have used and leave them there so the guys around him will trip and fall horribly!!!!! I also hate hyprocrites who claim that they hate people who don't put their weights back and even claim they are responsible members who put weights back after using them. A few days ago, I saw the same MOFOs who left the weights on the squating rack and never came back!!!! Ahhhhhhh I'm so mad while writing this now.

    3. Screamers. I just can't avoid/ignore them. Groaning is acceptable but screaming your lungs out??? I think if they really want to show their masculinity by shouting out loud? Please do that at a karaoke joint.

    4. Gym instructors who only talk to the pretty ones. I notice this and it personally disgusts me the most!!!! I always see guy instructors chatting up with chicks on the treadmill, while ignoring a poor lady who obviously needed some guidance from "qualified" gym instructors. Some of them even abuse their authority during personal training sessions such as putting their palm on the lady's buttocks "assisting" her in her stretch. Seriously, I was in the States for 5 years and I know they can be sued for sexual harrassment. But then again! The women in my country are so dumb and naive they seem to like the attention they are getting from the instructors

    5. TAKING 10 MINUTES REST PERIOD. Sorry for the caps but I'm actually getting quite pissed as I am writing this. :P I am not condemning people who like to socialize at a gym. When you rack up weights on the smith machine and decide to have a quick drink at the cooler I am fine with that. But doing a quick warm up set of 10-12 and then chatting up with some so called buddies for like 10 minutes enrages me!!!!!!! I don't mind if they do that during non-peak hours but doing that during peak hours deserve to soak themselves in acid!

There are still so much more and I should stop here. Must go back to work before my manager finds out I have been doing nothing but writing hate mails.

Please share your views as well. Looking forward to your feedback.

    Take care.
I agree 100% with this! I used to work at a gym and this was the biggest complaint people would have regarding other members.

Good article...sadly it still holds true today, over 10 years later. A new one for me is trainers/staff using the power rack with clients to tie up ropes and do stupid stretching exercises. Seriously?

My biggest complaint is less about "gym etiquette" and more about LOCKER ROOM etiquette. I hate that guys feel the need to have full out conversations nude. Mostly it's the “mature" males that do this, I have however, seen a few younger ones do it too. I just find it disrespectful and very uncomfortable when this is happening a foot away from me trying to change. Why can't you at least at a bare minimum wrap a towel around you? No one wants to see all of that.

Not sure how it's disrespectful to not give a fuq about nudity in a locker room. It's one thing if someone is looking you up and down licking their lips, or if you're in a restroom and they're peeping over. Otherwise it really isn't a bother to me if people are chatting. But different strokes or whatever.

I work in a gym and really, seen it all,the "help" that I work with is just as bad-some outright refuse to spot someone,or give orientations,or just help out period, and get away with it cause unless you kill someone you've got the job for life.

In so far as locker rooms, why do old men, with clumps of fat hanging like melted candle wax toddle around naked.Sit down on a bench to put your socks on and Grandpa Munster is naked with his foot up on the bench, junk within inches of you face.

Worse, after a heavy duty multi-hour full body workout,I hit the shower, turn around to get some much needed hot water on my back and there's a guy jerking off looking at me.Some people make me ashamed of being gay.lol !

Dropping a weight from a couple inches from the ground is a LOT DIFFERENT than dropping it from a standing position. I drop **** an inch or two on incline dumbel bench. They're metal...they can take it.

Screaming is one of those things dude...if you're screaming while doing an isolation movement, you're a biddy. If you're doing a squat or leg press, and a little scream on your last rep helps you mentally, then whatever. As long as it's not on every rep, it's cool.

I go to a school full of hippies, ***s, and art students. I'm the only one that uses the gym up here, so it's pretty much my gym to scream in and throw weights around in. 45 Gs a year has to pay for something dude.

Just finished reading all the posts in this...a lot of qualms!

I can not believe no one has mentioned needles however. Is this just the case in my gym? I don't care if you want synthetic muscles and terrible skin, but don't leave your needles around a changing room it is disgraceful.
