    Deadlift - How Often

    Hey all

i was wondering what you all thought about deadlifting 3 times per week?

I was reading an article about a training program involving deadlifting three times per week, and wondered if that was safe and beneficial?

    Thanks

if you're just starting out that is fine but when deadlifts start to get super heavy you need a much longer break..

    Right on.

Would you do super heavy on bench 3 days a week and expect to put in your best effort? Remember, muscles grow in the kitchen and sleep, not just in the gym.

I do 1 muscle group per week unless i have a specific muscle that i want to focus on, ill do it 2x a week. So if you want to focus mainly on lower back/back then do back day 2x a week.

I've been doing sets of deadlifts on Wednesday, and SLDL singles on the weekend, whichever day I go. I only experience DOMS from the singles, and I might only do 7-10 reps total. As long as your back can hold up to it, go for it.

Indeed, heavy deads more than once a week is no good. I do lighter RDL's on other days.

damn if i were able to recover from the weight i use i might try it twice. My body can only handle once a week which is fine, i recover better and am able to put forth just as much intensity.

    I deadlift every workout.

It's not really ideal though, I should squat every other workout and deadlift every other but I broke my hip a few years back and my hip flexibility just isn't there for heavy squats.

    No, not really.

It's fine. It's the only lower body work I do per workout and I only workout three times a week.

Still not a good idea if you go heavy often. Squats are brutal.

Compared to my other lifts my deadlift right now is pretty bad because I only started them 2 months ago and right now Im deadlifting once per week but I might bump it up to twice.

I used to have a powerlifting day where Id bench, deadlift, front squat for 2-4 sets but I cut it out a few months ago so I could split up my bodyparts so Id be able to concentrate on each a little better.
db shoulder press : can get the 115s up
    db bench: 125 x 10 x 4.
bulking to 200 even if it kills me.

You said you squat every other day.

Anyways, like everyone is saying, the more rest you have, the more you will be able to lift. I wouldn't recommend heavy DL's more than once a week, lighter days throughout the rest of the week with other styles of the deadlift work great in strengthening certain parts of the lift.

If you are doing all the other exercises you should be doing for the rest of your body like squats then deadlifts 3 times a week is probably to much lower back work unless the intensity and volume are very low.
