I have just been diagnosed with a hernia (in the groin area). i was wondering from anyone out there who has had a hernia. After the surgery, what type of excercises were the best to help strengthen that area. And if you have been able to fully recover and make any gains. Also, what type of surgery was it?

Hernia Recovery
Nothing but walking for the first two weeks post-op. Starting in the third week, you can add some light stretching and range-of-motion exercises.
After three weeks, the average inguinal surgical repair will be fused, meaning that you won't be at risk of tearing the sutures away from the underlying tissue. The inflammation and adhesions will perist, meaning it will hurt during exercise for a long time.
After a month, normal routines may be resumed as tolerated. I can tell you from personal experience, that lifting heavy weight will bother you for several months to varying degrees. And you will experience many aches and pains related to the hernia.
I do CrossFit, so I was able to scale many of the heavy lifts and focus on intensity and stamina. My mind still presents a barrier during max deadlifts, cleans and snatches, as well as intense core work. Good luck.

I had my hernia fixed a year ago. The doctor went in and inserted a "mesh" screen that would prevent the lower intestine from pushing through again, then he switched me back up. I was on bed rest for a week. I did cardio and light exercise for the first month. The second month after surgery I started doing some exercises, but with very light weights to make sure that I would not create any internal pressure that force the intestine through the mesh. After about 2.5-3 months I started lifting heavy. I currently squat, and deadlift and have had no problems.

I currently have a hernia in my groin. 3rd of my life. I had one when i was born, groin left side(same place as current). Had a hernia above my belly button about 5-6 yrs ago. I got it deadlifting some heavy **** at work. I felt a weird sensation, but didnt know it till i actually cut down like 8 months later and realized i had another belly button.
I currently have one in my groin, had it over a year now i think. Sucks, hurts off and on all the time. Im about sick of it, and gonna force the doctor to give me a referral to the specialist and get it over with. Its not currently ruptured, its just a hole. I guess my pain comes from constant rubbing? irritation? i dunno. But it has stayed the same for a year, just pain and ache for that year too.
The surgeon that fixed 2nd one said it wasnt a muscle weakness or anything like that, just the way i was put together. Something about how this **** here is crossed or whatever and it just came apart and stuff peaked thru i dunno.
But apparently i gonna deal with these things all my life.
OP be prepared to be out of the gym for at least 3 to 6 months, depending on what your doc says. Some ppl here got back faster, i didnt.
Ppl here told me 1 month. Surgeon said 3. then i went back for another checkup, and he said another 3 and very very light weight. So all in all i didnt get to really hit it again for 6 months.
And do what the doc says. Its not worth going thru that trouble again because you couldnt wait a month or 2.
When i get the current one fixed in the future, im gonna make sure i rest up and let it heal completely, i sick of these things.On BB.com, you can: be a ****phile, talk about beating women, be a bigot, racist, constantly flame and call people all manners of names and *******s, post half-naked women 24/7, threaten people IRL, etc.
