I'm scouring various boards trying to find an answer to this - does anyone know if taking milk thistle will make the pill ineffective?

I dunno about milk thistle...all I ever heard was stay away from ginseng and gingko if you're on the pill..
To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one's self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with exultation; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived -- this is to have succeeded.

I am not 100% sure, but I can not imagine that it would affect it in any way.

Depends on which BC pill you're referring to. Milk thistle increases liver enzymes that break down and can make oral drugs less effective. While this is good for your liver, it generally does not help any oral drugs you might take.
If the BC pill you're taking is methylated, then probably you wouldn't want to take milk thistle. Otherwise, you would probably be fine. Might ask your doctor about drug interactions with silymarin though.
