Too many variables to give an accurate estimate. First, everybody is different. Everybody trains differently. Everybody has different endurance levels. Do you try your 1RM after 2, 3, 4, 5 sets? How much weight did you do each of those sets?

For me, I can hit 225 for about 8 reps on my way up, hit a few more sets, do my singles (3 or 4) at my 1RM, then pyramid back down, and get 225 for 10-12. I just peak later than most during a workout. I don't put much stock in those charts that tell you what you 'should' be able to do. In other words, it is hard to extrapolate when there are unknown quantities in the equation, or when a linear relationship does not exist.

    squat: 425

315 for 1 would probably get you right about 315 for 1.

    Here's a question -
Say you're presently doing 225lbs for sets of 5. To get to the point where you can do 315 for 1, is it better to stick with 225 until you can add a few more reps, and then move up a few pounds and repeat, or are you better off sticking with sets of 5? Or dropping down to triples maybe?

Also was just barely able to do 275x4 FWIW.

I know it's an old post, but why would someone be able to do less reps with 225 as a first set compared to the last? My warm up is generally 225 x 10, which is not easy. However, I can smoke it for 10 on my last set no problem.

In-adequate warm up? I usually warm up 20 minutes but my gym is a god damn igloo these days! I am going to start wearing a hat, mit, and sweater in there!

When I was younger, my last set would always be my worst!

    When I rep 275 x 3-4 or 225 for 12-13 I can hit 315.

225 x 10 is a general guideline for a 300 bench which rings true for me.

225 12-13 times will give u an estimated 315 bench.

225x8 will get you nowhere near 315, assuming you're at the same state of fatigue for both sets.

245x8, possibly, but I think you need to be closer to 265x8.

Edit: This calculator shows 255x8 getting you there:

Think it's more about getting use to the Weight?

Like most of use here can clearly remember the day we finally got the 45lbs. plates on the bar and then each little mountain we moved and how excited it was to hit each mile stone. A few years back I did AST MAx OT and it really focused on low reps and high weight. When you hit the goal reps for a weight you moved up to a heavier weight. What I noticed is My little bro who is every bit as strong as I am never dared to put on the heavier plates and doesn't have the MENTAL part he needs to believe he can lift it. He's never gotten over 225lbs. I don't know about the rest of you but it seems to me that when I load up a bar after about 275lbs. it all feels really heavy. But I know in my mind I can move it and so I try. Now don't get me wrong 320lbs. goes up a lot slower than 275lbs. but I think it's more of a mental thing at that point for me. 265 x 5= 315-320 crossfit for a year= 330lbs.

Here are my 2 rep maxes.

    Bench 415 lbs
LegPress 1,750 lbs (5 reps) Machine won't hold anymore weight.
    Incline Bench 390 bls.
    Straight Bar Curl. 210 lbs.
one hand dumbbell curl. 85 lbs.

I do not do heavy weight with Squats, or dead lifts due to a bad lower back.

Im 6'1, weigh in out 202 lbs. with 6 percent body fat. Im natural, only taking in over the counter supplements. So far 1-AD is the best I've ever taken. When im on 1-AD there is a big change in strength and mass gains.
I'd say your way off on the 225 lbs 8-10x statement. I'm 5'11 175 lbs and my max is 280, and I do 225 lbs about 9x. So I'd say if you're max is 315 you should be repping 235 about 10x.

i always found this topic interesting.

let's say I stick with 225 for a few months, but instead of increasing the load, I increase the reps instead, would I be able to hit 315 once I reach 225 x 12 (for example)?

For example, today I max out at 225 x 1... in a number of months, I stay with 225 going for rep records. I eventually get to 225 x 12.

Using several RM calculators, there is a correlation between 1RM and 15RM, but I think one would have to be adjusted to the heavier load. Somebody who has benched 315 x 1 can probably do 225 x 12, but somebody who has done 225 x 12 without going over 225 may have trouble with 315.

So going back to my 225 x 12 example, my projected max would be about 325, but but would I actually be able to do 325? My tendons and ligaments have yet to adjust to a load heavier than 225.

There is no one answer, everybody is different and the way you train will make a difference as well. BUT, for me, the first time I benched 315, I could bench 275 for 4-5 reps ( although I never really tested my 5 rep max ).

You would think if one had a 270x5 bench then 315 would go up for a tough single.
235x8-10 would be for a lower range

If you can hit 275x5-6, then 315 is yours.
