A deranged maniac charged with slugging eight women during a misogynistic crime spree allegedly told cops he targeted the victims because “You have to check women sometimes.”
Daquan Armstead, 31, told police that he preferred not to pick on men, Manhattan prosecutors said Wednesday as the accused slugger was arraigned on assault charges and ordered held on $20,000 bail.
“It’s different with men,” Armstead allegedly told cops. “They don’t test you like women.”
Armstead was picked up by cops shortly after midnight and charged with third-degree assault and harassment in eight unprovoked attacks on women this year, authorities said.
That includes an April 17 attack on a 27-year-old administrator at New York University, who was slugged in the face while walking through Washington Square Park around 10:30 a.m., according to police.
Armstead, who was also sought on two arrest warrants after blowing off court appearances dating to 2021 attacks, was first busted this year in February — and allegedly attacked seven more women after a Manhattan judge cut him loose without bail, prosecutors said in court.
In court Wednesday, his lawyer said Armstead suffers from mental health issues.
“He seems to have fallen through the cracks, in regards to no longer receiving mental health treatment,” defense attorney Katherine Bajuk said in court.
“When someone with a mental health concern is incarcerated, nothing good happens with anybody,” she told Judge Michael Ryan. “The person becomes less commented with services they need, and the outcome for everyone and everything is worse.”
Records show his prior busts date to a 2021 misdemeanor assault case.
He was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation on Wednesday.

I feel like a broken record explaining the "black names" history but i'll say it again:
Once the slaves were freed, black people had to choose a name for themselves because they had no name. Most black people picked the last names of Presidents (Washington/Johnson/Wilson/Jackson/Harrison) because at the time they were "regal" and popular names and it was their way of trying to fit in. However, In the early 1970's, black people wanted to distance themselves from white people as much as possible (MLK's assassination/Civil Rights protests/Vietnam war, you know the story already) which caused the formation of the Black Panther Party. Aside from wanting to form their own government that worked in black peoples favor, one of the mantras of the movement was to get away from "white" sounding names and to adopt African names. Of course, these are not real African names, but names that sound African, and for several generations black people elected to name their children these names that seem silly to you.
Luckily I was given a generic and boring bible name, but my cousins weren't so lucky, lol.Last edited by Maestro; 04-24-2024 at 03:43 PM.

This was the 1970's.
There was no internet, and commercial travel to Africa in the 1970's was expensive, uncharted, and as foreign of a concept as traveling to Antarctica today. They weren't solely "African" sounding, but also Islam had a lot to do with it, so it was an amalgam of Middle Eastern and African sounding names. Think about individuals like Muhammad Ali and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who at one time had "american sounding" names but changed them because of the influence Malcolm X had on some black families. After MLK's assassination, black people felt that being pacifist and trying to "fit in" wasn't working so they tried going back to the teachings of Malcolm X who was really big into the practice of the Nation of Islam (basically the Muslim faith, but for blacks in America) who was more resistant and radical than MLK.
While MLK talk about holding hands and getting along and ignoring differences, Malcolm X talked of black people all moving to one US State and seceding and forming their own government. The Black Panther Party was an attempt to continue Malcolm X's teachings, but they got infiltrated by the CIA, had drugs planted on them, arrested, and disbanded. The only person today that still tries to carry on the message is Louis Farrakhan who is a certified nutjob.
Kinda off topic, but Professor Xavier and Magneto from the X-Men comics are analogous MLK and Malcolm X's beliefs.Last edited by Maestro; 04-24-2024 at 04:06 PM.
