I can remember feeling like the youthful and optimistic Spongebob like it was yesterday
felt like Squidward for a long time now, though

Late for my era
Doug, Rocko's Modern Life, Hey Arnold, the Adventures of Pete and Pete, Clarissa Explains It All, Salute Your Shorts, and (outside of Nick) Tailspin, Tiny Toon Adventures, Batman: animated series and Beetlejuice were more my period.
Heard it was a good show though.I've been seeing the past in one eye and the present in the other. So, I thought I could only see patches of reality, never the whole picture. I felt like I was watching a dream I could never wake up from. Before I knew it, the dream was over.

I bet man, I hear a lot of good things about it. By the time it was really taking off, I moved on non-animated slightly more adult stuff, smallville, house, arrested development, firefly, and a bunch of others. Sad that I missed it, a show doesn’t last that long without some quality behind it.

Made me Google it and you're right OP. Also the same year Spongebob came out, so too did Ed Edd n Eddy, a few months earlier in fact. Crazy chit but makes sense, I'm late twenties and grew up with this chit.
