Way back when they had some character sculpts of female space marines. They had some plans to introduce more in 2nd edition but these were scrapped too.
They came back to the idea with the Sisters of Battle with their own lore and identity: Unmodified humans with power armour.
Most of the lore about the Custodes really didn't exist until the first codex in 2018 and prior to they were just in artwork and stuff.
I wrote all of the above from memory so it might not all be accurate so apoloigies- but really now, female marines seems like a bit of a strange hill to die on for 40k. You've got the Chaos God lore and Haeddonites of Slaneesh and Slaneesh himself, a figure who is basically gender-neutral and trans fluid who enjoys cannibalistic blood orgies and all sorts of depravity....Warhammer has already gone down that rabbit hole of any sort of depravity you think modernity is thrusting upon us.Back off, Warchild.
Seriously.

I have zero interest in warhammer, but it's interesting how women constantly try to infest and change male spaces, while men have no interest in accessing female spheres (aside from ghoulish transgenders).

Idc about 40k but women will never be badass warriors IRL. That's just reality so stop trying to make us believe it could ever be a possibility. The End

They're different games and its good to watch some battle reports, work out costs and stuff. Conquest has alternating unit activations so it's more engaging and fun and you really need to plan ahead, in Warhammer waiting and getting rocked by your opponent is not fun.
Warhammer has many special abilities and stuff so the battle has a very narrative feel to it, and creates fun and unique stories for each battle. But Conquest excels in control of your army with things like its deck system and stuff, but this degree of control reduces the spontaneity which seem may not appreciate as much.
Conquest would be harder to find games to play though.Back off, Warchild.
Seriously.

Why gaming companies hire female execs is beyond me.
They know nothing of the products."To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda
