I don't like people helping me, so moved everything in our house by myself. The only thing I couldn't move, was the 750ish lb piano. I even pulled a massive wood and glass hutch up a flight of stairs alone.

Got one better. Had a buddy of 25 years ask me to help him move. (He wanted to be closer to his married girlfriend) Which of course I would. He asked what day was good for me. I literally mentioned 6 days of the week that I could do it. He said no to all of them. Told him why ask me if you could only do it on one certain day? So I free up that day to help him. His sloot married girlfriend was at his new place acting like a foreman on the job.

About a couple of months later, I ask him to help me move some stuff, not even a full move. Other than the ride from point A to point B maybe an hour’s worth of work. I loaded the truck up with the smaller stuff myself, just needed an extra set of hands for a couple bigger things.
We’re set to do it on a day he agrees too weeks ahead of time.

Fooking morning of. While I have the moving truck in front of my house he calls me and says he can’t make it. Because his married girlfriend wants to hang with him that day. Mind blown. I never spoke to him again. Thankfully I had some other friends come help last minute.

My wife just reminded me of its existence a few days ago and I know she is going to want to hold onto so much crap for nostalgia's sake and we're going to fight over what to keep vs getting rid of it. Helped one of my wife's family members move as a "favor"



Got there and it's a 4200sqft 2-story and nothing is packed

She had 48 hours to get out of the house..

I was there alone as I was told it was all ready to go into a truck..



24 hours later I had TWO 30-foot trailers loaded.. spent the next 14 hours driving





Ended up forking out $3,000'ish out of my own pocket to pay for all of this..

If you have a dolly and a bit of strength, one person is enough. Loading the van/truck is tricky, but you just lift one end on first and push or pull until the heavy/bulky item is loaded.

Stairs are a bit tricky, but one step at a time usually gets you there.

I did end up paying to move the 750 lb piano, which took 3 guys up a flight of stairs. Never again, years later, I pulled the innards out of the piano and repurposed it.

Yeah, it's one thing to move when you're 18 - 25 years old and have several other blokes you'll be rooming with to help you do it. Starts to suck really hard as you get older. There's a reason some people pay thousands of dollars to moving companies to have it done.

I have one hardwood oak desk downstairs that's super nice, I've had it since I was a kid. I'd almost sell it for 10% of what it's worth to let some tradies or whatever haul it out for me and keep it for themselves before I try relocating it again.

I live in San Diego and have been in this place a long time so the rent was pretty decent for the area. Now I cant afford anywhere around here as the rents have skyrocketed so i will be moving to arizona.

been wanting to move there anyway so might as well do it now.

My senior mom lives nearby and I take her to the store and stuff like that as she doesnt have a car and obviously cant carry sacks of stuff around so she will be coming along. That means I have to move her place too at the same time.

Have to do it 100% alone too which sort of sucks. Figure I am going to stage everything in my garage first and then it should be straight forward, everything in a box and right into the truck. Still abit of work but i am up to the challenge.

Hire the movers on Craigslist ffs.

You pack up all your stuff, you rent and drive the truck, and they will load and unload it. Three of them moved me once and not counting drive time, they had me loaded and unloaded in less than 3hrs. Cost ~$200 IIRC.

Last time I helped someone move they promised to pay me in pizza and beers. I don’t even drink so I was already getting phucked over, but I liked the brah so I agreed to spend my Saturday helping out. After 3 Uhaul trips and unloading tons of heavy furniture, this dude takes me to the grocery store to buy a frozen DiGiorno pizza (ded fkin srs) and overcooks it. I ended up doing all that for a tiny slice of charred cardboard. Never again.
