Trust the Science: Ultra-processed foods can be GOOD for health; WHO-backed study

    https://www.theguardian.com/society/...ed-study-finds

Some ultra-processed foods increase the risk of developing cancer, heart disease and diabetes – but others are good for you, new research into the demonised foodstuffs suggests.

A major new international study has found that regular consumption of meat products – such as sausages – and sugary drinks make it more likely that someone will get those diseases.

But bread and cereals actually reduce someone’s risk of them – because they contain fibre – despite also being ultra-processed foods (UPF), the same researchers also concluded, in findings published in The Lancet.
Please eat your heart healthy 11 servings of daily grains, folks. Science has spoken.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

According to them the following are good for you:

Bromine (replaced Iodine like 50+ years ago) (present, and conveniently never labeled on the packaging)
Seed oils / hydrogenated seed oils
    Glyphosate
    Heavy metals
"Fortified" with non-bioavailable Iron which not only isn't necessary in the form being delivered, but is toxic and actually feeds cancer.
Maltodextrin (one of the many re-namings of MSG)
    HCFS
    Soy

And you're not allowed to say any of the above is bad, and they can produce "studies" "proving" that they're all great.

These broad based dietary surveys are junk, always have been. I saw video of a doctor saying recently a few ounces of berries a week is as good for reducing risk of cardiovascular disease as 10 hours of weekly exercise, based on an old dietary survey. Yahh, totally bro. I guess I'll be living to 100 even if I don't work out anymore.

Please, stop exercising, that can cause a heart attack. We all need to stay indoors and out of the dangerous sun, eat our heart-healthy grains and ultra-processed foods and avoid dangers like exercising and spreading misinformation.

A political connection to this is Congress subsidizes the ever living fuk out of corn and soybeans, as if we just came out of the Great Depression. So what's in everything at the grocery store that isn't meat or fruits/veggies? Corn derived sweeteners, soybean oil. Low grade poison.

Imagine how many products would disappear from the shelves if the bolded parts were completely banned (which needs to happen).

    Lol on too many levels.

How the hell is bread a UPF?

When I ground up and season an animal that has first been killed, skinned and processed into cuts, am I creating a UPF?

Bread is ground wheat and water, if you want to get fancy then you add salt and fat, if that is a "UPF" then just about everything is lol.

The key to all of this manipulation is you, if you are a dumb person then you will be subject to propaganda and you will believe you are acting of your own free will when you are not, if you want to defend yourself and discern fact from fiction then you need to rely on yourself and educate yourself.

Not that many. Absent HFCS they'd add sugar, sugar cane, etc (sugar also gets subsidies from the govt). Getting rid of soybean and canola oil, along with a few others like cottonseed and corn oil would be good but I don't see it happening like they did with trans fats. I've never been real big on fried food, maybe once a month sort of thing. I worked in restaurants back in the day and remember the oil gets heated at incredible temperatures for hours on end. That's an inflammation/heart disease disaster.

Hardly an endorsement of ultra processed foods, imo.

"Some ultra-processed foods are good for your health, WHO-backed study finds" -- which, you're right. This is saying some are inarguably bad. It's also saying others are "good", which is a dangerous statement and also pretty laughable.

I posted/quoted the study authors' conclusions. From where does the quote you shared originate?

This, the article is just clickbaity trash. It's misrepresentation.

The article says "Like several other recent research projects, the new study did conclude that UPF harms human health and makes it more likely that someone who consumes a lot of it would suffer a potentially fatal event, such as a heart attack or stroke."

The scientific paper doesn't support eating UPF. It says people can get fiber from bread, but ultraprocessed bread doesn't have as much fiber as regular bread. My only question is it's seeming broad attack on condiments liek sauces and stuff , so I wonder if they mean things like ultra high processed mayonnaise for example rather than just condiments per se, like home made ketchup or natural peanut butter etc.
    Back off, Warchild.

I find it intriguing that those who seem to oppose science rely on media misrepresentations of scientific work to support opposition to the work.

    https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...190-4/fulltext

Other subgroups such as ultra-processed breads and cereals (HR: 0.97, 95% CI: 0.94, 1.00) or plant-based alternatives (HR: 0.97, 95% CI: 0.91, 1.02) were not associated with risk.
    There?

Although, and Bodhy touched on this, what is far more trash than the study would be the media spin/article on it.

I rarely eat bread anymore, but I do have it here at the house for when guests want sandwiches, toast, etc. I find it strange that a loaf of bread will last a couple of months without getting moldy or hard. Not sure what they put in it now as opposed to when I was a kid, but after a week or so I remember bread getting moldy. Mom would cut it off and say it's fine LOL. They are definitely adding chemicals to bread.

They usually add mold inhibitors. They aren't toxic to humans in the quantities present.
