It's a combination of fault on both ends. When I was a rentcel, 90% of the people who rented around me always complained about being broke or about money in general. Yet they always had to have the newest cell phone, nice car, nice clothes, etc. Consumerism on materialistic bullsh!t is a bigger culprit on why people can't afford the necessities. yes renting is cheaper, the landchads are in competition with each other for rentcels and a lot of landchads, the ones who brag about being locked in to low interest rates, they are the ones lowering the rent prices. Essentially rentcels are getting access to the low interest rates of the past by renting where as buyers only have one choice the current high interest rates plus high prices.

This. I was a rentcel until my 30s and looking back renting fuking sucks just from the moving aspect alone. Not having to move every 2 years or whatever is super underrated. Finding a new place is such a drag.
