Average MCAT score for Stanford is top 15 in the country. Cant fake a 520. Even if they gave preferences to women and minorities they were still highly qualified and extremely intelligent. No one is walking in there with a 2.8 GPA and 490 MCAT. If you're worried about who your doctor is, I wouldn't worry about a woman from Stanford. They guy from the El Paso Medical College is who you should worry about.

To match with a hospital the medical student and the hospital have to both rate each other highly. Stanford hospital even agreeing to interview you means you went to a top tier medical school and had top tier grades and test scores. For these people to match with Stanford and get into their surgery residency? Their scores and grades were the top of the top.

This was my line of thinking as well.

There are people with perfect scores and likely perfect GPAs who are white/asian who are getting replaced with women/minorities with close to perfect scores and GPAs that are slightly less.

I don't think the profession is in danger, but it's definitely a net negative on society and scientific development when opportunities are given to those less qualified.

Then there are women who change their mind later on and decide they want to do medicine part time or drop the profession altogether and be a stay at home mom or something else. Pretty chitty because they took opportunities away from others who would've contributed.
