Shohei Ohtani and his "interpreter" being federally investigated on gambling scandal

    Cliffs

-Ohtani's interpreter goes to ohtani to help him out in his gambling debt which was 4.5 million

-Ohtani wire transferred money to pay off the debt

-Dodgers and Ohtani's people change the story to now Ohtani's money was stolen from the interpreter and somehow interpreter had access to "steal" and wire transfer 4.5 million out of Ohtani's accounts. This happened over 2 years. Reported 8-9 wire transfers.

What I think, this mothafooka used his interpreter to place bets.. got caught and now interpreter is the fall guy, people who say "Why would he need to place bets if he is so rich", its an addiction like people who abuse drugs and alcohol.. its all about the rush.

who knows what will come out of it, it will be especially bad if he placed bets against his own team (the angels at the time)+

Pete Rose watching this story closely.

MLB will break their back bending over to cover this up. Interpreter is a total fall guy. Interpreter first claimed Ohtani was issuing wires to help him out of massive 'debt' but then Ohtani's lawyers climbed all over this thing and made it like the interpreter is breaking bad and stealing from Ohtani right under his nose while sweet little innocent Shohei was too busy taking batting practice.

    Right, sure.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the bookie or this interpreter turn up dead in a car parked at chick fil-a with a suicide note. I've gone full conspiracy.

Kind of looks that way. You have to think the MLB will want this to be a nothing burger and will do all it can to keep blame away from Ohtani, but man this looks bad. He either gambled himself....which is very possible and the interpreter is taking the blame. Or at the very least he paid off a bookmaker, which is illegal.

    Not good.

Can't believe the conspiracy theorists are bleeding into sports now.

The interpreter saying Ohtani consented to all of this is a classic culprit blaming someone else to escape or take off heat.
Ohtani has little reason to risk it all over a little money. That being said, we've seen rich people ruin themselves over trivial amounts before, but the fact that Ohtani took a huge paycut for the Dodgers shows that he's not a slave to the dollar and puts winning/honor over money.

I wouldn't be surprised either if the interpreter suicides, but only due to Japanese culture of Seppuku. The interpreter dishonored the most important Japanese person in the world, and dishonored the country with an addiction.

I'm glad that Ohtani's reps (lawyers) are asking for a full investigation. It shows confidence that the facts will demonstrate Ohtani's innocence.

But there's a far greater issue that abounds: this is just the beginning of a new American sports gambling culture that's sweeping the nation and how it will infect American sports.
Yesterday there was an article about a basketball coach receiving death threats to his family if he doesn't win.
The crowd boos if the coach subs out players rather than covering the Over.

There are sports betting desks inside the stadiums now!

The Golden Bull shall not be stopped, but this country has some soul searching to do or there are going to be more Americans committing suicide like that interpreter.

Seems pretty obvious the original story of him paying off his interpreters debts was legit, and they realized that was still illegal/bad, and then decided to do a 180. Would have been better off sticking to the original story... by far.

Well as I said. Either he bet, and we will have to see if bets were placed on games he played in, or he paid off a bookie. Either one is 'illegal'. One with MLB and one with the Feds.

Either way, unless the Powers that Be want to protect him, he most definitely F'd up.

If this was any other player? He would be out of baseball by now. This is that big. But because it is him? And how much he means to MLB and especially MLB in the Asian community?

I can see MLB trying to bury this.

think of hiliary clinton and the FBI investigation for her illegal servers

FBI gives all clinton folks immunity, they destroy all the evidence and move on like nothing happened

    ***Trigger warning below***

Even if Ohtani did the betting MLB should absolutely 100% sweep it under the rug.

I know all the social justice warriors out there will be appalled at the idea of him getting away with it, but the reality is that Ohtani brings tremendous value to his company. All of the same rules really should not apply to him at the end of the day. Why should they? The world is not a fair place. What Ohtani gives more than makes up for a slight indiscretion here or there. It would be a disservice to MLB and baseball itself to burn him at the stake for breaking this rule.

For all those rule sticklers out there, I'm not saying he should have free reign to do whatever he wants. There are still certainly some things that, if he did them, should not be swept under the rug. This is not one of those things though.

If you were a super important person in your company and broke some rules, the same situation would apply to you. As a matter of fact, if you were the owner of a company and broke one of your company rules should you be forced to sell the company and "fire" yourself? Of course not that would be silly. For individuals who contribute less and are easier to replace, obviously they will not get that same length of a leash. That's all that's happening here and that's how it should work. Stop pretending everyone is equal when certain people are far more valuable to a company than others. Ohtani is 1000x more valuable than the mop up reliever on the Oakland A's.

Truth is he's earned the right to follow fewer rules (if he chooses to) whether you like it or not.

NHL never banned Gretzky...NBA never banned Jordan...MLB not banning Ohtani.
Anyone who's affiliated with the game who srs crusades for an Ohtani ban will get fired on the spot. There's way too much money at stake with this guy. Also would make zero sense given how many players throughout history have been hanging with gamblers and laying bets.

a few examples of bets placed + Ohtani suddenly falling on his face as a pitcher

maybe it's all a big ol coincidence but this is what happens. people are going to start digging.
    Are you fookin retarded?

The interpreter was Ohtani's best friend and the only person he talked to.

If Ohtani isn't feeling well, he's going to tell the interpreter and then the interpreter bets.
More likely, the interpreter is going to actively ask how Ohtani slept that night, what he ate for breakfast, how his mood is, whether he jerked off the night before, and how his body/injuries are affecting him that day, etc. etc.

More likely...Shohei Ohtani told his interpreter to bet $3.5 million on the Dolphins winning the Super Bowl because Shohei Ohtani likes dolphins.
