I had tons of fun initially and I still am, but the cracks are starting to show. Is there anything in this game that isn't a cyclops, dragon, griffin, ogre, minotaur, or golem? I keep coming across the same chit everywhere I go. I've been exploring the first map, so I'll report back at the desert, but I was expecting a little more variation. At least different types of these monsters with different quirks

I loved DD1 but the monster variety is one of my criticisms. It just doesn't compare to something like The Witcher 3 when it comes to monster variety, and based on other posts, it seems like they even lessened the monster variety in DDG2 which is a shame.

I just learned that if you use those golden beetles they give you a permanent carry-capacity increase.

I keep hearing so many things like this that other games have been slammed for. But there's still a fairly big online circle jerk calling this GOTY or whatever and justifying all the flaws.

Sometimes gamers are just biased.

Yeah, DDDA has a cult like fanbase which screams if you give it a rating less than 8/10.

DD2 is a decent JRPG slog, but I think decent games are in the 5-6 range. People are too generous with handing 7s, 8s, 9s, and 10s out to games, they overrate them.
