eh
I am not a fan of save scrumming either, in BG3 i never save scrummed and let the dice roll how they would.
However in Dragons Dogma, i would prefer to save scrum to start at the beginning of an area, or encounter, when the 'dealing with my decisions' is to spend 30 minutes running to town again to rest, and hire new pawns. It is clear the certain game decisions were made to prompt the player to pay for microtransactions.
Of you can load your game from 3 minutes ago, but not 10 minutes ago. Enjoy your 15 minute walk to camp(or purchase our $2 fasttravel token)
That being said, i actually enjoy the game for what it is, I've put an hour or two a day in since release.

Fair enough. I haven't bought that because I nailed my characters, though it's cheap as hell in game. I hadn't seen that it was a one time purchase at the time of posting. I was more referring to the wake shards, camping kit, rift crystals, smoke beacons, goal key, rift incense, (etc...). 99% pointless cheap trash.
If it helps, the patch notes state that they're upping the number of Art of Metamorphosis to 99, also making that a non-issue. Patch notes are also adding the ability to start a new playthrough. Paying for pawns is also definitely unnecessary. The pawns your level are already more than effective enough. Isn't "pay to win" more of a tag for multiplayer games that let you buy advantages over other players? What are you winning against playing a single player game with a powerful pawn? Seems more akin to someone modding in a super strong companion in their own Skyrim single player experience IMO. Stupid to spend money on it.
Denuvo is a legit problem though. I understand not supporting games with that implemented.Last edited by AD117; 03-25-2024 at 08:18 PM.

I thought there was inn save and last save ,it tells you lose everything ,but I thought I had an inn save closer
I went to an inn for storage but didn't rest as it's 1000g and I was going past a campsite anyway back to cave
Welp,I deleted it entirely and gonna start from scratch
Very aggravating just because i wasn't sure it was a quest item
What if I sold it ? They just stick it in valuables
Smh

Oh,don't bother with the chimera
If you go up top and beat the wight ,which took 30minutes
The chimera disappears
Lot of stupid time wasting bs in this game lemme tell ya
Resting should be a save
Period
Inn rest counts,but costs gold
Campsite is free ,but doesn't count
Lemme guess ,you can buy gold as an mtx ?

I've been viewing it from this lens too.
Game has hefty clunk, but it's livable if you were used to it from other Capcom games like Monster Hunter (where you feel like you gotta run around and click on 10 different things before you can start your next 20+ minutes mission).
I claim guilty for looking up how to do several quests tbh. Wasted so much time on the Phantom Ox Cart quest...
Spoiler!
A lot of it feels like there's additional busy work, to the point where it's less on the "wow this is fun I get to actually use my brain" side, and more on "wtf I just wasted 55 minutes, partially because of a bug, partially because of unfortunate sequence of events, partially because a drake came down and killed the NPC but was yeeted miles away so couldn't find the body, so went to the morgue to revive."
That said...
After reaching level 10 sorcerer, I looked up and gunned my way to unlocking Magick Archer. I wasn't ready to be in that zone level/quest-progression wise. Kinda bothers me that the unlock of this class is at one of the final zones. This took about 2-3 hours looking up a guide and bee-lining for it. I think I'd be level 40+ otherwise by the time I'd have gotten it naturally.
Magick Archer is OP as F compared to sorcerer. Sorcerer has a couple of good spells don't get me wrong, particularly the augural flare spell mixed with quick attack spam, and it's such an aesthetic class too, but once you try Magick Archer, or watch some gameplay of a Thief, you're gonna feel gimped even when you're wearing the best upgraded gear for your level. Levitate makes up for some of the squishiness and lack of maneuverability/mobility at least.
But BRB Magick Archer lets you heal/revive/bubble teammates with arrows, your stamina-free basic attacks (Rivet Shot, Pinpoint Volley) are surprisingly strong since they hone towards weak spots automatically and fire like 10 arrows every few seconds, your enchanted attacks (frosthunter, ricochet, arctic bolt) feel very powerful, then of course if you're fighting a dragon or something with 5+ health bars, you can opt to pretty much one shot it with martyr's bolt, which is an ultimate ability you unlock the moment you also unlock the class itself. The only struggle is if your fighter/warrior in the party isn't maintaining aggro, cuz they likely won't due to your amazing DPS.
From what I can tell, in terms of OPness associated with damage, it looks to me like Thief > Magick Archer > Warrior >>> Everything else. Survivability though, seems like Trickster > Mystic Spearhand > Fighter >>> Everything else. And of course you need at least one mage unless you want to solely use and distribute potions the entire time.
Fun game over all to me, but it's up to the player how immersive and/or overpowered they wanna feel. Games like these (Dark Souls, Monster Hunter) I always end up going for one of the cheesy playstyles after enough struggling.Last edited by Visel; 03-26-2024 at 09:38 AM.

Had to go for an hour walk to burn off rage
Just be careful with inn rest and your valuables
Everyone uses the inn at level 2 cuz it's free ,after that it's 1k gold
Then it's early game so they use Campsite, cuz those are free ,but they don't save
Yeah ,thief fkd sh up first game ,my sloots a thief ,same as first game
Archers seem useless ,mage can heal plus hit flying enemies

Leave your pawn's info here if you want me to slog her around for a bit. Same goes for anyone in the thread.
I may be one of the few that doesn't have an issue with fast travel. the ox carts provide plenty enough transportation, and all you need to do is just put your camping gear on your pawn and do some inventory management to keep yourself at average/light weights which means you can sprint for a long ass time. I find the ferrystones to be cheap and affordable, especially when you're seeing rentable pawn quests giving you 10,000 gold for killing a cyclops.
My issues with the game can be summed up like this.
Terrible vocation balance, little enemy variety, less boss variety than DD1 (no gazers, hydras, or cockatrices - only one medusa (that can respawn after 2 weeks), sphinx, and colossus fight each), save system is too punishing (or maybe there's a way to disable autosave? admittedly haven't looked into this), open world progression is too path-focused with not enough open areas, locking magick archer until the end of the game is baffling, and most dungeons are thematically identical and far too short.
Forget about the bad performance, microtransactions, forgettable story, awful villains, and lack of memorable characters - just speaking purely gameplay-wise, this is worse than the first game. Not even talking about Dark Arisen, I mean vanilla Dragon's Dogma 1. DD1 had better dungeons, access to all the vocations early on, more bosses, and a better post-game.

I had tons of fun initially and I still am, but the cracks are starting to show. Is there anything in this game that isn't a cyclops, dragon, griffin, ogre, minotaur, or golem? I keep coming across the same chit everywhere I go. I've been exploring the first map, so I'll report back at the desert, but I was expecting a little more variation. At least different types of these monsters with different quirks

I accidentally skipped the good ending.
Spoiler!
IDK what happens next exactly, but so far I'm changing my rating from a 9/10 to a 8.5/10. Thankfully I never experienced some of the bugs described ITT, but there's definitely some bugs that I've faced, clunky nuances, clunky menus, unexplained information that you have to learn online or remain frustrated/ignorant. Kinda wish they had some more playtesting before releasing, even if it meant pushing the release to July or something.i7-14700k
