Random Question for those with back pain

Ive always walked around sucking my stomach in because i was super fat and self conscious as a kid. Still do (body does it normally at this point). Still am.
Ive been working HARD on corrective exercises (bringing weak points up so the chain gets stronger) and mobility (not just stretching but weighted stretches to help me get strong in the new ROM (otherwise, the chit will HURT)). But ive always had low back pain and no glutes (gluteal amnesia). My quads have always been super strong, hams were....meh.

Anyway, i'm wondering if sucking my gut in is the primary reason for gluteal amnesia and in turn, my lumbar arthritis.

I forgot to mention that i tend to walk "softly." Grew up living above my parents and didnt want to bother them too much. When you walk, this happens:
    1.) Heel Strike
    2.) Mid stance
    3.) Toe off
    4.) Heel strike
    etc

The toe off is one of the final signals to the brain to activate the glutes. No toe off, no signal. I guess ive been driving in with my midfoot.

I doubt it, keeping your core tight is the way to maintain proper posture.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

If your glutes didn't work you'd be walking around folded in half in full hip flexion all day lol.

Yes and no. Its MUCH more about a balance between all the core muscles and the legs, mainly the posterior chain. Also, your abs are only a small link in the chain that makes up the core. Contracting your abs is not at all the same thing as bracing your core

Hmm...I do also have a compensation curve in my spine. Makes my right shoulder sit a bit higher than the left and my right hip is higher up which makes it seem like one leg is shorter. In reality, a LOT of people have the exact same issue, especially if they played sports. There is a reason we have a dominant/strong side that is much more dextile than the other. Mine is just more pronounced than most of them. But also, there are people with the EXACT same issues and severity that dont have as many problems. I'm just trying to narrow down causes so i can get at it. I'm old lol. It hurts to get out of bed....

Try a new mattress. I had chronic back pain for years, after getting a purple mattress, it went away. A lot of these memory foam mattresses have 30 day trials.

backs just hurt sometimes, stenosis, OA, bulging discs

    all common with aging

also you're suppose to rotate your mattress every 6 months so it doesn't wear down unevenly

I suck in my gut most of the day too. Just natural for me too, I'm not even too out of shape but if I just 'let it hang' it looks big lol.

Also have back pain, and it hurts worse when I suck in.

If you learn anything please PM me or rep me or something so I can read it too

Sucking in your gut activates your abdominal muscles, I dont know how that would effect your glutes. You may be over thinking it. Being overweight and getting older is gonna cause some deterioration of your lower back, it is inevitable. Try some bird dog stretches everyday, it wil activate your glutes and help with the lower back pain.

If you have tight abs it could cause pelvix tilt which could cause back issues.

I had a lower back issue that refused to go away until i stopped ab training and started doing deadlifts again with really light weight....like 5x5x185 three times a week. I kept doing that till plateaued hard at 5x5x385 raw, no belt.

I started recording rpe and resetting when it got above 9.

Hows hamstring flexibility? Can you touch your toes with a straight back?

My matress is chit but ive only had this one for over a year. Ive had bad arthritis issues for over a decade. But ive made changes and now i feel soo fuking much better. I dont wake up hunched over because of muscle tightness

also you're suppose to rotate your mattress every 6 months so it doesn't wear down unevenly
Actually, back pain isnt common with aging. It has NUMEROUS causes. Did you know that wearing narrow toed shoes (pretty much all shoes these days because its [I]more fashionable[/I) completely screws up the toes which effects the musculature (plantar fasciitis) and if you just live with it long enough your body will shift the inbalance somewhere else. Eventually, it will climb the posterior chain up to the low back.

But i totally get what you are saying and even a guy like me with my CLEP degree, it took me years to get back ont he right path

Also have back pain, and it hurts worse when I suck in.

If you learn anything please PM me or rep me or something so I can read it too
yeah man, let me hit all these replies and ill post some helpful videos that show you how to contort yourself then try to lick your own ass hole just so you can stretch this one tiny muscle thats responsible for pulling you low back in directions that are no bueno

Try some bird dog stretches everyday, it wil activate your glutes and help with the lower back pain.

Sure, but bad things happen when you just lightly contract one muscle in a muscle group (i.e. the other core muscles) because this skews how the group works as a unit. Strangely enough, That pic is a drill in the McGill Big 3. I do them every day, usually twice a day. Its helping correct my hip impingement). I cant tell you how much better i feel now that i'm correctly targeting my core

I started recording rpe and resetting when it got above 9.

Hows hamstring flexibility? Can you touch your toes with a straight back?
Yeah I have this nagging nerve pain in my lower abs until i stretch my abs out. Then the pain is instantly gone. Hams are good. Ive been doing jefferson hangs and jefferson curls and HOLY FUK does that help with flexiibility AND getting strong in that new range of motion

If youre in bad pain, dont be a hero, go to a doctor and get checked out.

Why don't you fukkin man up and just diet down and lose weight FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE? Damn dude it isn't hard to EAT LESS. Have some fukkin self control instead of coping with stupid bullchit theories like this thread. Unreal.
Well hello there dollar store david goggins. Yeah excess weight (LBM and fat) is extra strain on the joints. But also, sometimes joints naturally break down. Thats usually called rheumatoid arthritis. WHich is what I have. But ive found a flexibility routine that is working like fukking magic. When i get this back pain bull chit taken care of, its over for you bitches

Already covered the "it comes with aging" part. It does happen, but the majority of the common range of back issues are probably caused by imbalances somewhere in the hip. My problem probably stems from never really learning to hip hinge so my glute medium just never really devloped correctly. But i'm learning now. It feels like my hips are being hugged

Get a few pairs of doc shole insoles and see which ones help the most, you'll be surprised what a good pair of corrective insoles can help alleviate your back pain.
