This is coming from soneone who has not read the books, watched the show or even played the first two games. I’m playing it for the first time and beat the game and am playing the first of the two DLC’s. I believe this game has more bang for your buck than any game ever. And if I could only play one game ever again, i think it would have to be this because of all of the content. First of all it has a big open world actually filled with interesting monsters, interactions, items, lore. The game has more depth than any game I have ever come across. Every quest in the game is meaningful and an adventure. The fighting mechanics are very fun, and there are a lot of ways to approach combat and different builds to try. There’s a lot of stuff to collect and different choices in dialogue to make that can change the story. You could play this many times through and have a different experience each time. You don’t need to play the other two to play this.
There’s two DLC’s and I’ve never cared for DLC but these add so much to the game with new stories, and I’ve heard the Blood and wine DLC is basically like a new game in length. The one thing I can say I do not like though is the controls sometimes. It feels very clunky especially considering how smooth tears of the kingdoms controls are. But overall this game is a work of art.
Definitely a must play.
EDIT:
There's a crazy sale on steam right now.
Witcher 1 is $1.49
Witcher 2 is $2.99
Witcher 3 is $9.99
Witcher 3 +All DLC $12.49
I've never played the first two, so i'm going to beat this final DLC Blood and Wine, then play the first two games, and then replay Witcher 3 again on NG+

The Witcher 3 might be the best game I’ve ever played

Also if you play this for the first time one note I have to add is just choose to kill the first succubus you come across. It’s not spoiling anything but this will be helpful info later lol.
I really wish I had access to that particular decoction that I can never make now."Even through the darkest days, this fire burns, always."

Don't know why I always start the game but never finish it. I literally just play the prologue and never continue on. I don't think it's a bad game at all either. I bet it looks hnnng with the next-gen graphics now though. Fantasy games are kind of a hit or miss for me. I'm loving shadow of mordor right now though

As an overall series, it's second only to Mass Effect Legendary imo.

Hearts of Stone blew me away. I enjoyed every minute of the content. I started Blood and Wine but I'm waiting on building a new PC before finishing.
Played the main storyline twice already though. One of the few games where I feel empty after finishing everyone's story."...Voidmayne...Creepin' up on ya..."

How is Witcher compared to skyrim or elder scrolls?
Gf has been dying for a new game but can't seem to find one that fits her vibe, didn't think of Witcher 3 until now
Would a skyrim cuck enjoy it? Similar vibes/gameplay?Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

Skyrim is more about you being a random no name you create, and you to out into the sandbox and explore, do quests etc.
In Skyrim there are definitely people who respond to you, but in Witcher 3 you play Geralt and so there's a far more interactive component with the story as you have more shared history with other characters. So W3 feels like a more involved, intimate story with far more depth and emotional payoffs. I can definitely see her enjoying it more because of that.
Combat is in 3rd person and simpler. It does show its age but it's serviceable. There are options to unlock skills but they are mostly passive stats/enhancements so you don't necessarily have to learn new move lists and combos. I'd still say the combat is more fun and involved than Skyrim and the best part is you don't have to constantly deal with the UI to change abilities or inventory management which is great.
Open world can go either way, depending on your style but Witcher 3 is definitely a better looking game and also littered with towns and cities. The NPCs feel more like real people. Graphics in the updated next gen version look VERY crisp on PS5, and a smooth 60fps. No complaints there.
Edit: make sure you get the complete edition. The DLCs are amazing.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

The prologue is the worst part of the game, so it makes sense. As you uncover the other parts of the map and get ass deep into the side quests, that's when it gets it's hooks into you.
@OP, TW3 has a permanent spot in my top 10 favorite games of all time. Many games flow in and out of that list but not TW3. Also, Gwent is life.***The Misadventires of Gandalf the Black***

The vibe of a fantasy setting would be similar. You got monster, swords, magic, etc.
Biggest difference is Skyrim is more of a blank slate, choose your own adventure type game, while TW3 is you ARE Geralt, but you decide his decisions that will mold the story. Even little side quests you did hours ago that you completely forgot about could end up with an unforeseen consequence down the line.
The side quests are, imo, the best in any RPG I've ever played.

I agree. ME1 was rough and you had to have some hacky chit to even think about using a gamepad but overall it was still a great experience in it's original form.
TW1 is absolutely atrocious to play but the lore/story/characters are all solid but had the benefit of the books existing to pull from which makes the ME series even that much more impressive what the writers pulled off.
I still play through the ME trilogy about every other year. I don't have that new version yet and this year is my ME year so I'll probably double dip on that and get caught up on all the mods. I used the ALOT mods on my last playthrough.Sig line can't be a novel

I only played it for the first time with the remastered collection and as far as I read it received a bunch of improvements, mainly to ME1. Is it still a little janky, sure but they did smoothen it out I heard. Also, it received the most reworks with regards to graphics and textures to bring it more in line with the other two. I've had like 3 playthroughs since buying in 2021.

The story in the witcher 3 is very good but the gameplay is mid.
Just in it's own setting of the fantasy sword and sorcery Elden ring absoloutley trounces it
I also prefer cyberpunk just due to the setting but I know that's controversial.
I like witcher 3 though it's a great game but nowhere near the GOAT imo more like a solid top 25

It’s in my top 5 etched in stone. I started it like 3-4 times and couldn’t get into it until one day I made it a couple of hours in and got hooked. I’m glad I kept at it because I would’ve missed out on a GOAT tier game. The combat could be better but it’s not as bad as some of the haters make it out to be.
If I’d never pushed into a few hours of play I’d probably agree with those who claim it’s overhyped. My thought is that 90%+ of those people who say that didn’t give it enough play time to understand the draw of the game. They don’t know what they’re missing. This body holding me, be my reminder here that I am not alone.
Makes me feel eternal, all this Pain is an Illusion.
