Chew but don't swallow ???

I watched a mini-documentary on one of the greatest boxers of all time, Rocky Marciano. He did something that makes me scratch my head; perhaps someone here can put some lite on it. Rocky would eat healthy... but when it came to meat, he chewed his meat but never swallowed!

That leaves two questions...

1) can you get all your nutrition from meat, including protein, if you just chew your meat, but never swallow?

2) Why do you suppose he would do that?

1) No, you’d have to actually swallow it to get the nutrients

2) you can google search and find a lot of people hypothesizing why he did it. Some people think it’s to trick his stomach to start digestion, others think it’s to strengthen his jaw muscles for his boxing matches, and the list goes on…
