So, you're OK with the State conducting an irrational, partisan political hit job against someone you don't like... What happens when their next target is someone you do support?
What happens when businesses start fleeing the radical bullsh*t they just witnessed in New York, before they become the next target?

There was no "law and order" in this fiasco. An AG who's campaign theme was "get Trump", no need for any evidence or a crime. A fraud conviction where NOBODY involved claimed to be defrauded or suffered any losses. A randomly ludicrous judgment.
Where, exactly, was the "law and order"
So I'll ask again. What happens when their next target is someone you do support?Last edited by nutsy54; 02-23-2024 at 02:39 PM.

Giving an opinion of value that is different from a county assessor that doesn't actually know how to assess value other than looking at camps has never been considered falsifying a financial statement, and will never be considered such again. At least not until there's another wealthy real estate investor challenging the communist establishment.

If it was just the difference between the county assessor and Trump over the value of Maralago you'd have a fair point. There were dozens of examples of misstatements though and a pretty clear pattern.
It's not impossible that there is a political aspect to this and it's not 100% "fair". But that's life. If you put yourself out there you better have your ducks in a row or someone is going to call you on it. Trump being obstinate about everything just makes it worse.

“We are prepared to make sure that the judgment is paid to New Yorkers, and yes, I look at 40 Wall Street each and every day,” she added, referring to the Trump Building.
The AG of NY already has her eyes set on what assets need to be confiscated so judgement is paid.

Explain what you mean by "the same way".
There is nothing special about real estate investing, it's just a business activity, and there are plenty of examples of New York applying their business laws, and specifically the same ones applied to Trump, to other people improperly conducting business in the state.

That's not true:
The term “repeated” as used herein shall include repetition of any separate and distinct fraudulent or illegal act, or conduct which affects more than one person.

If they had evidence of a crime, then they would have charged him in criminal court. They didn't.
The entire goal was to waste his time and drain him of resources heading in to the 2024 election cycle. They pumped BS charges through civil court, put it in front of a judge who was giddy to charge him millions, and the only way for him to appeal is to pony up the cash.
Even if trump wins the appeal, it is still draining him of time and resources. Which is the entire point.
Spare us the "it's not impossible that there is a political aspect to this" nonsense. It is entirely political.

The examples of AGs running on a platform where they vow to "get" 1 particular person are endless... And after relentlessly pursuing the guy for years, they have nothing. Certainly nothing that would hold up in criminal court. So they bring a novel legal theory to a complicit judge in civil court where they can try to bankrupt the guy.
Perhaps if you look at some third world countries you can find some examples, but not in the US.

My posts are always based in fact, so of course I can.
Here's a list of cases for you to brush aside because you don't actually care about law and order or truth.

1) Trump was never charged in criminal court. He was charged in civil court, because nothing they "had" on him would hold up in criminal court. Everything listed in the document are criminal charges, not civil charges.
2) I read through the first few pages and none are evenly remotely similar to what trump was accused of doing. Ironically, #1 on the list is exactly what the biden's did with their overseas income from foreign govts... but funny enough, the fbi was more than happy to let the statute of limitations run out on that.

Bad loans defraud shareholders because the institution misses interest payments that would otherwise be higher...and also they take on higher risk because the loan isn't backed by the appropriate assets.
Using fraudulent means to obtain a loan and then paying off the loan on time does not mean everything is fine. It's not fine if someone embezzled money and then repaid it. The crime still occured.EX IGNORANTIA AD SAPIENTIAM

The banks testified on behalf of trump that they did their own due diligence and were fine with the terms of the loans. In fact, trump was considered a whale client and most banks would bend over backwards to land him for current and future business.
So even if trump overvalued properties (debatable), the banks looked into it and based on their own valuation, they were more than happy with the terms of the loan.
