I started integrating these into my pull days probably 5-6 years ago and I tend to cycle them in and out. I've experimented with above the knee, at the knee, below the knee, etc. I primarily used it as a way to improve my deadlift at the time. Now, I don't care about deadlift weight all that much anymore and I throw in rack pulls from time to time because I like them a lot and they're a great way to hammer that final nail in your back day coffin. For myself personally, I also found them to be a great trap workout and a nice way to work on grip strength. I've only ever used straps on really heavy deadlifts and prefer to use chalk now. Seriously, my gym is full of chalk.

I hate rack pulls because I'm a manlet, and not every cage has safety bars that go extremely low (I also don't want to stand on plates).
I feel like Flex said they're just an ego lift, and I agree. Any time I ever see someone doing them (not many), they're slamming them into the safety bars. I always think they're going break something.++ Positive Crew ++

feels a lot more natural/less prone to injury. i (and many people) have bad ankle flexibility. really is no reason to do full ROM deadlifts unless you compete/powerlift/strongman

I've never been able to get the feel for them and think my position is wrong.
I've been DL'ing from the floor for 30 years and the way you feel the load increase before the bar moves feels fine. Rack pulls OTOH, the loading phase just feels wrong and consequently makes me not like them.
As far as DL's go, I'm weakest off the floor. If I can get the bar to just below my knees, I can lift it. So, I don't think I would get a huge amount out of rack pulls, even if they didn't feel wrong.Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!
The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.
They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

I'd say these days I like to occasionally throw in a set or two of rack pulls at the end of a back day to finish off the back. Getting older and deadlifts don't feel as good as they used to. Sometimes what I'll do is like an in-between deadlift and rack pull, lifting from the ankles or something like that, rather than off my feet on the floor.
