I dont think lifting weights really burns any meaningful calories. Running might burn ~10 times the calories compared to sitting, so ~80 vs 800 calories per hour, but lifting weights aint cardio. If you work out for an hour, how much of that is spent resting betwean sets, changing weights and warming up, keeping in mind that some exercises are so easy to perform that they probably dont even get your heart rate up?

Lifting weights does burn calories, but not as much as you do intense cardio. That's actually what I've noticed using my fitness tracker. During heavy lifting, I burn around 70 calories in an hour. But 20 minutes of cardio burns around 300 calories. I dunno how accurate are those fitness trackers.

Lol. This guy must spend a lot of time on his phone between sets.

    https://www.healthline.com/health/fi...urned-standing

When you stand, you burn anywhere from 70 to 95 calories an hour. It all depends on your sex, age, height, and weight.

Sitting, by comparison, only burns 65 to 85 calories an hour. The difference may not seem large, but it adds up over time. You could burn anywhere from 15 to 30 more calories just by swapping 3 hours of sitting for standing.

Note that males generally burn more calories because they typically have greater muscle mass. The more muscle mass you have, the faster you generally burn calories.

Interesting question. I never actually counted. But I think I should do this experiment once. I hope that during this experiment, I'm allowed to eat chips.

I think if you're only training for health, you shouldn't be lifting maximum weights.

You can increase the lifting mass steadily, but definitely not start with heavy lifting. I've seen a bunch of guys in the gym whose New Year's resolution was to become healthier, and they started with heavy lifting straight away. Trust me, it looked horrible.
