TLDR
OP you have to seek private contractors that will work for cash and do an extremely good job, usually much better than proper companies and contractors, at 1/3 to 1/5 of the cost, this is how I renovated the entire house for about 40k, if I did it with Just calling contractors by googling them it would be about 200,000 or more.
It’s word of mouth, you have to ask around and have people come out and give you a quote. But calling Yellow Pages or Google, or whatever is pointless, you’re gonna get ripped off,

When you can't fix something around your home yourself, shop around. Are you part of any community groups? That's a fantastic resource to explore. I find lots of tradies to help me out via community groups.
*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

WAY back in the day I worked for a bank. There was a general contractor that banked with us and he'd always bullchit and talk business. He told me he always would make up random numbers for his quote. So instead of a $15,000 quote, he'd write up a $14,732 quote just because it looked better than 15K and it wasn't an even amount.
