I read the the old man strength comes from the slow but steady strengthening of tendons and ligaments. That since muscle can grow so quickly in relation, that those become limiting factors and they only get stronger through decades of use.

alot of strength is related to joint size. guys with big wrists can typically bench alot

big ankles help with squatting

but from a bodybuilding aesthetic stand point large joints are a disadvantage

If you’re big and muscular and strong you’ll have a substantially easier time in the real world lifting something when compared to the average non gym goer

There’s a reason the first worlds strongest man event was all bodybuilders, powerlifters and football players
