Hi
I'm 38 and I've decided to start going to the gym twice a week, I don't really need to do any cardio because my job entails walking most of the day.
Does anyone know of a good training plan and what I need to train if I'm only going twice a week?
Sorry I know these questions are probably asked time and time again.
Thanks

When you follow the advice above, don't just train "mirror muscles" (the ones you can see easily when standing in front of a mirror).
Try to balance your training
For all the pushing away from your chest with your hands exercise (e.g. bench), put the same time and effort into pulling towards your chest (e.g. rows). The same amount of training pushing your hands above your chest (e.g. press) as you do pulling down (e.g. Lat pulldown)
For all the work on your brachialis/biceps do the same amount of work on your triceps.
Don't only do your favourites, force yourself to do stuff you don't want to do (I just hate bent over rows, but I do them)
Start easy and light, way too easy and way too light. Slowly very slowly increase the weight/reps each workout, see how long you can keep increasing each workout, slow progress will get you further.
Developing a long term habit is more valuable than any short term progress, don't rush this and cause a silly injury, make it stupidly waste of time easy for the first month, then easyish for the second month, moderately hard in the 3rd month, tough in the 4th month, then and killer ball-busting hard effort in 5th month and onwards. Think long term.
Enjoy...

It's good that you've decided to start training. I think we should encourage people to work out and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
I think going to the gym twice a week is OK for beginners. But I hope you will go more often.
Personally, for me, it's crucial not to lose motivation and not give up. Sometimes, I find some lame excuses not to go to the gym. But then I look at my results and at my peers, and I don't wanna look like them. No offense!
