Sure, if you do a job and someone refuses to pay that's a dog move and you should seek reparations. But do it properly via the courts, not losing your temper and smashing up the driveway like an angry neanderthal.

He could have just put a lien on the house for the unpaid tradie work instead of doing something that could easily get him charged with trespassing and vandalism if the homeowner was smart and had the balls to do it.

Yeah, pouring new wet concrete onto old concrete doesn't bond properly. You can use Quickcrete to do new small concrete jobs, but patching over old concrete always works halfasssed. They can patch over the holes and it'll be fine for a year or so, but it'll start cracking around then and get worse over time, much faster than one solid pour. Plus, all that patchwork won't match the original concrete job perfectly, and will look like absolute chit, especially with that many holes to fix.

The lady has still gotten more than what she paid for. The "oh my, how dare they" value is how quickly they hack holes into it, not the act. If you don't pay your car note the banks will repossess it and you have nothing. That's much harsher than driveway holes. What these guys are doing is like banks taking away your 2024 Highlander and leaving behind a 2012 Ford Focus.

The problem at heart was agreeing to do charity work for a ghetto chick without getting full payment first. Their mistake was being trusting. The legal process would cost them more than what they'd get back. Good on them for not being scared and repossessing their work. More of this sort of thing is needed in the world. Mesh works like absolute chit compared to good rebar. Either do it right, or don't do it at all. No proper concrete tradie does large concrete jobs without rebar. Anything needing to take the weight of 5k+ pound vehicles needs rebar.
