Gotta be honest with myself, I really do like Dave's stuff and I enjoy listening to his standups but I gotta admit I think he's a bit overrated. He's reached a level in his skill set and career where he might just pop into a comedy club while back home and have a sea of cameras waiting to capture it on tape. I think he's gotten to a point where he might not have carefully prepped a pile of material and a very tight special, but rather, just steps on stage with a mic and goes for it. It seems really flowing and verbose to me. That's probably my favorite thing about him, though. I like how he can basically just step out in front of people and just start talking and he's engrossing enough to want to stop and listen. For many comedians, that wouldn't be worthy of an overarching Netflix special.

If his material were delivered exactly the same way by another comedian, I'm not sure people would take notice as much. He's absolutely one of the GOATs, but there's plenty of other comedians who are (or were) at that same elite level. Doug Stanhope, Bill Hicks, Dave Attell, George Carlin, Sam Kinison, Patrice O'Neal, Greg Giraldo, Norm MacDonald, Bill Burr, Andy Andrist, Sean Rouse, and so on.

I would put a good amount of comedians in an "elite" class. Especially now that so many comics are either crowd work hipsters (Matt Rife, Natalie Cuomo) or Joe Rogan runoffs that aren't that great (Tom Segura, Bert Kreischer, Schwaub).

Always thought his skits >>> his stand up. But this older chappelle is funnier on stage

He still has some really problematic views on BLM which tempers the media's reaction to his other jokes.
