2023 could have been AEW's best year ever.
- Wembley was a massive show
- CM Punk, one of the biggest stars in the business, was back from injury
- Punk had classic massive potential feuds laid out for him, MJF and vs. the Elite
- Collision started out strong, being the best wrestling-based show on the air
- MJF was getting massively over and finally secured himself as a top guy
Instead, much of this entirely based on incompetent leadership:
- Punk is fired and gone from the company. The EVPs refused to even meet with him and Tony allowed it
- The "Punk is cancerous toxic!" narrative is utterly destroyed once Punk arrives in WWE
- With Punk not looking as guilty, the EVPs childishness becomes very apparent
- The Bucks consistently kill ratings, right until they leave for no reason (weeks before Punk returns, hmm)
- Fight Forever is a massive flop
- One of their other biggest stars, Kenny Omega, is out w/ diverticulitis - a disease the company mocked in their failed video game and also Sockface
- Year ends with yet another of their biggest stars, Jericho, having serious SA allegations against him. It may turn out the company covered it up
- Oh they look to be losing their TV deal in 2024, with WWE having interest in WBD, some say Punk's involvement with WWE is a factor
- This may be a good thing, but through Meltzer, the Bucks are making it known they are upset with the company (particularly the firing of Dana Massie-Buck)
... some of this they were just ****ed on. Fight Forever was going to fail, although with CM Punk on the cover they might have sold more copies. Omega was going to get sick either way. It's unknown if Jericho's allegations would have come out of not, some of this was due to Nick Hausmann dropping hints and that opening the door to all this. He might not have with Punk in AEW, as there seems to be a behind-the-scenes connection there.
Otherwise, they lost arguably the biggest star currently in the business - to WWE. They had a potential Von Erichs/Freebird feud on their hands with CMFTR/Elite, which is gone. The Bucks were rehired to massive money contracts but not reigned in or told to do business. They may walk and trash the company anyway, even after Khan sided with them over Punk. No Punk/MJF, we get the wet fart Adam Cole Devil reveal instead.
AEW is ****ed and it's almost all their own doing. All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

The accusations against Jericho aren’t serious yet. Someone posted an allegation that Jericho propositioned her and that’s why she left and she posted an emoji in response to a tweet thread which people took to be a confirmation on her end. However, she’s left every promotion she’s joined shortly after joining and recently went into rehab for alcoholism.
The a wrestling journalist who has recently been in a Twitter spat with Chris Jericho blurted out that Jericho was the Harvey Weinstein of the wrestling industry and covered it up with NDAs. And hasn’t offered any additional evidence since then.
So if it is true, why was he sitting on a story like this until Jericho was a jerk to him online?
Nothing that has been presented so far has been substantive enough to justify the hysterics and demand for instant punishment. It’s just the toxic wrestling fans that love canceling people.
I agree with everything else you said though. The Elite refusing to bury the hatchet and make money was such bull**** and probably caused AEW to lose out on millions.
Although, I will say that the end of the round robin tournament saw a ratings spike and Tony Khan mentioned sports based a lot. So maybe he’ll pivot away from the goofy bs.
Deathstroke - Has there ever been a Samoa Joe title match not worth watching? MJF also pays tribute to Brock Lesnar at one point which you might appreciate.Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. -C.S. Lewis

Haven't watched the match yet, but I heard MJF goes for an F5 on Joe
Cole being the Devil is fitting, I just think everything about how they arrived at the reveal was poorly executed.
Katie Vick wasn't a good storyline by any means, but IMO it wasn't meant to be, and I always thought it was hilarious.See Krackerjacked's sig

So here's the full accusation on Jericho:
We definitely need more details. First of all no proof of anything yet. Second of all, if everything in the tweet in the bottom left of that picture is true, and if that's all that happened and she just left afterwards, this is a giant nothingburger and Jericho should be fine. Yeah it's deceptive but he got her alone and shot his shot and failed. Big whoop.
Now if it's more than that, like if he locked the door/tried to keep her there, grabbed her/felt her up, assaulted her, or worst case scenario forced himself on her (r@pe) then he'll rightfully be in deep schit.
But again at this point it's one person's claim and a bunch of speculation.See Krackerjacked's sig
