I ran 12 yesterday. Only because I found new trails to run. Going to peak at 30 mpw. Then jack up the speed work. Should be at or under 10 very soon.

4200 calories a day to maintain 182 lbs lol

Good luck on that goal! It seems like you might even reach it soon.

As a lanky teenager (17, 170ish pounds, 6'2"), I could run a single 6:30ish mile which is somewhat close in pace but I capped it at a single mile and my distance running was often 8 or 9 minute miles.

I'm around the 10:05 mark now. I think to get under 10 i'm going to need more miles. So far there has been zero "interference effect". I've been right around 20-25 miles per week. However Im almost positive that if I go up to 30 miles per week I will lose strength. I am eating 4 thousand + calories a day at this point lol. Still 182 ish lbs, still over a 300 bench, 400 ish squat. So yeah it really takes alot of cardio to "kill muh gains bruh". The only real downside is i'm pretty much always on sore legs.

With my schedule I had just over 55 miles this week. I passed my short term avg per day some time ago, so now I guess i’ll get my minimum standard raised in order to make my goal for average my goal for critical.

I’m assuming with that level of mileage you’re not going to maintain weight room progress? What does your week look like?

My strength stays consistent and on the incline. I wouldn’t call myself much of a power lifter so it wouldn’t be right to suggest anything.

From what I can tell, 90 minutes daily is at the point where your body kinda needs to start catching up.

Truth be told my weight regimen in the gym had started after I had started doing so much during lockdown. I had already reshaped what I used to do in the gym to a whole nother thing before that.

So I held 30 mpw for a while. Now I’m cutting mileage back to 15-20 mpw to bring in speed work. Strength started to drop right at 30 mpw. I only went over 30 mpw 2-3 times. Still 182-185 lbs but don’t have the energy I had before in the weight room. I will run the 1.5 in a month and then I’m done.

Maybe you posted this somewhere already.

How much cardio have you done over the past decade? sports/cardio machine/frequency?

    Just curious.

I ran track and distance in 2014 and then just kind of started running whenever I felt like it. So basically twice per week. I did a little bit of cycling around that time period too, then went all out on lifting from the end of 14 until 23.

Did you stil do cardio betwean 14-23?

I heard some people say that cardio is one of those things that is quickly developed and quickly lost, unlike strength/muslce gains. Was wondering what your experience is with that.

I did just not that much. It’s not quickly developed in my experience unfortunately. It depends on how advanced you were before the lay off. Someone running a 4 min mile will have a much more difficult time re gaining that level of fitness vs someone like me who can only muster a 6 min mile.

I’ll share my experience from last June.

Day 1- walk jog in back yard. A struggle for 20-25 min
Day 12- 3 miles without stopping

Wasn’t long after that where I was running for an hour without stopping.

I’ll probably start again this spring after taking off for the winter. At least now I know that it takes just a few workouts to build the base.

Definitely depends on how fast you want to go. I’m not the most talented runner and would probably need 40 miles+ per week to have a chance at winning a local scrub 5k while praying no one good shows up! For basic fitness you can probably get away with 2-3 days.

I’ll probably start again this spring after taking off for the winter. At least now I know that it takes just a few workouts to build the base.
As I recall, your BW is pretty high. Running for an hour at that bodyweight is pretty impressive. kudos. Did you have much athletic experience?
