If you join the military, just make sure you don't end up a combat role.

I'd advise joining the Air Force and taking a comfortable desk job where you get to drink coffee and sit in a comfortable office all day. Do that for 20 years, retire at 37 and live comfortably on a pension with full benefits.

Honestly, it's a good route. Most people graduation HS don't know themselves, and even if they only do the 1 enlistment they will have the GI bill and be more grown up about what they want to do, lots of veteran benefits.

If you can't go in as an officer then don't do it.

Just my opinion mind you and I have no idea what you are wanting out of life.

Your best bet is to talk to those who have enlisted that have no reason to lie to you or mislead you. Army recruiters are no different than cringy car salesman. They get money from everyone the sign up so don't drink the Kool aid.

If you can get one of those huge bonuses and their Is an MOS that is related to what you want to do in rhe real world then it might be a good option. For you.

Just make sure you research very carefully.

What's does your asvab or whatever they call it now qualify you for?

Something in medicine if you want to go that direction in life.

Intel if you have interest in that.

Or what I see as more ideal, something in IT.

Get good enough at what you do that you can get a good job as a defense contractor within five years so you do not get trapped in the "I need to make it to retirement first" mindset.

Make sure you do as much school as you can since a degree is needed to qualify for certain jobs when you get out.

I joined at 18 and retired at 38. Started collecting a pension at that time.

its not enough to live off of but it really makes things much simpler. Basically you can get another job and put a good portion of the pension towards savings. Thats the ideal situation but it does take some work.

Also get medical , tricare prime which pays for everything., i pay for that but its like $26 a month or something like that. So not only can you get another job, you also dont need to pay for medical insurance which can be very expensive.

I get 50% of my base pay and now its 40% of your base. Of course the base is higher now so its probably close to the same thing.

Its not an easy career path though. Tons of free overtime, missing your loved ones, potential dangers and all that. But you have to work somewhere so might as well get something out of it.

My job was easy and not in a combat thing so never really had to worry about the danger associated with that.

The Pensions aren't very much, though they are somewhat decent if an officer.

However - the smart thing to do (especially now since recruitment is supposed to be low as fuk) is get a job that will give you valuable training/skills/experience to really set you up for a solid career as a civilian.

its one of the smartest things you can do. and I reccommend you pick a combat/hardcore role. Why?



-odds of getting wounded/killed are extremely low. and to be honest, combat roles are just more fun (dudes LOVE it man). desk jobs in the military suck balls and arent fulfilling

tell me these lads arent having the time of their lives

-its more of a fun/alpha environment being in a combat/infantry/rangers type role. more Chads. more guys that lift etc. less girls
-you can use your gi bill to attend college free - as someone that helps with recruiting at top ivy league schools for vets guys that actually went all out in their service time (ranger school, airborne seals, PJs etc) get top looks. even just infantry looks good. if you just tried to hide in the service the other vets like me arent as impressed with your service (srs)
-attend columbia or dartmouth for free (with a stipend even), while all your classmates are racking up debt
-graduate with a 180k to 200k plus job with an elite network

easiest and surest path to the upper middle class. cant believe more people dont do this

Retirement isnt what it used to be, its not 50% of your last three years. If you end up in a crappy job due to your ASVAB score or poor choices you will regret it.
