What is considered a powerful country?

My point is that 1) Israel has already fought in the Gaza tunnels, did not enjoy it, and I would imagine have spent the last 9 years coming up with solutions for the future ie today, and 2) the Marine Corps general, with all due respect, is way out of his element, and while I'm sure he's extremely smart, has not fought in ANY tunnels anywhere similar to Gaza, and won't have anything of value to add, and 3) the US learns these types of things from Israel, constantly. For example, Israel taught the US how to use tanks in urban areas in 2001-2, because Israel has been doing that for a long time. The fact is, if Israel goes into the tunnels, the world will reap the benefit of Israeli casualties, and receive one hell of an after action report, and it will be taught in all the war colleges for decades to come (whether the outcome is success or failure).

Don't typically listen to any form of media talking heads from America but this was a good interview. The former general knows what he is talking about and gives an honest assessment of the situation without inserting propaganda talking points.

It says in the pic that US troops used smoke grenades/poison gas grenades in the tunnels but the gas dissipated very slowly. And I'm sure there are plenty of ventilation shafts or tunnels to get rid of excess water making flooding impractical.

Yeah im guessing in dense jungle those vent holes could be anywhere. Also smoke grenades wouldnt make enough smoke ya, would need like a massive log fire amount of smoke blown directly into that tunnel somehow.

I don’t think anyone has come up with a solution to urban tunnel warfare with hostages that ends well, or completely ends the enemy. Experience is irrelevant, it has never succeeded. Not in Nam, not anywhere, unless you go nuclear, which only works when you are the only country in the world with that capability.

This was designed to be a lose-lose situation, regardless of what Israel does imo. I lean on the side of deescalation and not tossing IDF soldier into deathtraps, or making a pariah of Israel. Weigh cost vs benefits here.

Israel needs a political reformation, because it’s current policies empower organizations like Hamas. Hamas can only be truly defeated when it loses the support of Palestinians as a whole, or else it will just keep reappearing under a different name.

For now, that cannot happen without some kind of major deescalation and agreement on either a two state solution, or abandoning current policies that divide the rights and privileges of people in the region based on their ethnicity and religion.

And even with that, time will be the biggest factor. Some hate only disappears after the generations who cannot let go of resentment/forgive others die out.

I think it’s hubris to believe every problem can be resolved in our lifetimes, but we can set the foundation at least.

What Israel does in these situations props up Iran imo. Much of the Iranian population does not align with it’s leadership. They are supportive because of the enemy Iranians leaders push. Without justification to unite against that enemy (Israel in this case), I think the population will have more time to critique it’s own government, and at some point, it will be toppled by an internal revolution.
