Imagining driving a POS car because its "cheap".
Yeah, its cheap for a reason.
- more likely to git pulled over
- no respek
- looks/smells like chit
- mechanical/engine problems up the wazoo
- looks like an immigrant/illegal trying to get by
- bum like mentality
Imagining not being able to afford 200-300/month on a decent car. Like what is you doing, bb?

I've had a handful of absolute sh*tboxes that I paid less than $500 for each.
69 Firebird
73 Monte Carlo
77 Capri
78 Cutlass
I think each one lasted ~6 months before dropping it off at the junkyard.
You kids today are nothing but punks.
Sissy boys.Sometimes a certain smell will take me back to when I was young. How come I'm never able to identify where it's coming from? I'd make a candle out of it if I ever found it. Try to sell it, never sell out of it, I'd probably only sell one.

Lol at investing in a nice car. Worst investment you can make. (Not including rare Classics)

nothing inherently wrong with driving a paid off beater that's relatively reliable while attempting to get ahead financially. Actually it's smart. Even smarter if you can make basic repairs yourself.
i image at current interest rates a new $25k corolla would probably be $500/month....plus you need full coverage insurance that could be an extra $50/month...plus yearly property tax in my state at $30 or so extra. that's $580 month x 12 = $7,000year. now factor in opportunity costs and that could be closer to $8,000+/year.

I definitely feel like driving a beat up rusty old car around on a daily basis for years on end with no end in sight can definitely wear on the mind somewhat. Kind of like how a neat and organized home is better for mental health than a hoarder home filled with piles of clutter and filth laying around.

Back when I had a 5.0 Mustang and didn't like using it for back and forth to work crap I bought into the whole beater thing. Picked up a Pontiac Grand Am for a few hundred bucks. hen I first got it, I did a lot of work to it, and made it decent, but after that, the POS was just one thing after another. Sold it to my friend for virtually nothing because he literally had no car when his got wrecked as I recall, and bought my 2002 silverado, and this was in 2004. My Chevy Truck was my dream back then so I was stoked AF. I still have that truck now and now it's my beater basically. Now it's kept for "truck" stuff.

the good with the "POS" is that you have no worries...no cares if someone runs a buggy into it, less concern about scratches/fender benders, etc.
my uncle is worth $10M -- in his 60s/retired/married. his vehicle of choice is a 2007ish highlander with 200k miles. he bought it from his sister for $5k with ~170k miles.

True. Might be a decent deal.
But if the car will only make it to 200k, you'll have spent 7k for 50k miles, not including any unknown maintenance. No one is going to want to buy an old ass Lexus with 200k.
If you bought a new car, for 25k and put in 50k miles, you can sell it down the road for 18k, and have zero maintenance while BEING IN A NEW CAR THE ENTIRE TIME.

the mindset that got you to the show (obtaining $10m net worth) doesn't always leave just because you can afford to not worry. at least this is what i find with many self made wealthy people that weren't raised wealthy. granted, i do see some wealthy people that make an honest effort at not raising their kids wealthy...in hopes of avoiding the dreaded materialistic spoiled brat that can't relate to people.

Erm, I don’t think that actually happens. A $100k+ car is generally made of different materials. A door ding can be devastating. Aluminum, special composites, carbon fiber, and premium paints can make repairs costly and difficult. I was always nervous about not getting something fixed perfectly and having imperfections. Not because we couldn’t afford them, but because you don’t want your high dollar car to look like chit. It’s extremely difficult to get that “from factory” perfection.
