What exactly is weightlifter shoulder?
Hi! I have been working out the past 3 years on a consistent basis and have had great results. A little over a year or so ago my shoulder started hurting. Most likely from bench pressing (as my form wasn’t always the best, it’s better now). I went to a sports doctor near where I worked, they took x rays and he said I have weightlifter shoulder and would eventually need surgery. I went back in earlier this year and he gave me a cortisone shot (he told me this was just a bandaid and wouldn’t fix the issue). That helped for awhile and it’s now back to hurting. I changed jobs and went to a different doctor near where I work now and they took x rays as well. Told me it’s an overuse injury (weightlifter shoulder) and to do physical therapy and I didn’t need surgery yet.
My shoulder mainly hurts when doing pushing exercises and when I do back exercises (cable row) it tends to feel better.
My question is, am I wasting time with physical therapy as I don’t see how this can fix my shoulder pain since the way the 1st doctor described it as my bones touching? I could be wrong about that so sorry.
Thank you!

Have you tried alternative grips on all your lifts-- neutral, supinated. Have you tried dumbbells instead of a straight bar, and use alternative grips. I experience frozen shoulder. I couldn't lift my hand/arm above my shoulder. I spent 6 months using underhand grips on all lifts. My shoulder is healthier now than at any time in the past.
