I say that because it's the first proper current gen title (something that you can't find on last-gen consoles) that has really blown me away, getting me really immersed in it's world. I think I would describe it as what you would get if Fallout and No Man's Sky had a baby. It has that gigantic sense of scale that No Man's Sky has, where you can just fly out to whatever stars you can see in the galaxy, and fully explore whatever worlds you can land on. Biggest difference here being the Fallout element, how as opposed to everything being generated like NMS, it's been carefully crafted with all sorts of interesting locations and distinctive characters/events to discover.
That's easily what I love the most about this game, just the vast sense of exploration with a purpose. In NMS, it's fun to just explore but there is never really any purpose or distinction to the locations you visit or NPC's you meet. In Starfield, it's like you never know what you will discover. I'll just want to check out some random planet that looks interesting to me, that I have no real need to visit, and I will discover some old facility or something and uncover a whole side story that could have easily gone overlooked. It's just all the thought and attention they put into this game.
Heck it even reminds me of some of the better aspects of the Mass Effect series at times. The way you can actually check out and explore our solar system, the way you fly around on your ship with a distinctive crew you can assemble, how they can accompany you and have their own dialogue and reactions to everything, the different hub world city/town locations all over the galaxy, it just truly feels like they managed to capture all of the best aspects of space exploration games and open world RPG's. Basically, in an era where I seem to struggle to get interested in a lot of the new hyped up games, this is something that truly captures my interest. It's also the type of game where I can just relax and soak it in at my own pace. A true diamond in the rough.

I don't know man.. But a 3yo game with updates manages to beat it in graphics, physics, and AI. Story might be debatable but if we're talking "next gen" we gotta be talking about those things, right? Btw Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 is only available in current gen
What's crazy is that the Cyberpunk 2077 mechanics shown in these vids, except for water physics, were already there even at its horrible launch.
And while I'm a CP77 fanboy, if we're going to talk about AI and physics, CP77 and Starfield are both beaten by RDR2.
So it's like when it comes to AI and physics category, RDR 2 > CP77 >>>> Starfield
Starfield is like a few generations behind. RPG mechanics and story might be really good though, but even 2000s RPGs can have really good RPG mechanics and story.

Played 1 hr and it's just a bunch of mindless running and mining for ores. Fun.
The worlds are mostly empty. You can't land manually with your starship. Combat is elementary, no depth."It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience."

Yeah, funny enough, the typical redditor audience always seems to hate anything that is actually fun and enjoyable. No wonder that place is so miserable.
Oh well, not my problem really, I just felt like sharing my take on a game that I think is actually fun and immersive, that actually captures my interest. I have been so sick and tired of all the superhero capechit and wizard n elves lore crap that has been so popular with today's gaming sites.

If anything it's definitely my GOTY, lots of disappointments and games that I thought were overhyped, but this is not one of them.
Best thing is, you know it's only going to get better with age. Lots of people seem to forget how buggy games like Skyrim, Oblivion, and New Vegas were when they first released, while this is on a much bigger scale, and honestly nothing here has been game breaking for me. In fact there is a fun little bug for easy resources, the "puddle glitch" that luckily hasn't been patched out yet.

With Bethesda you know the game will be hilariously terrible in some aspects but you will still not be able to stop playing it. I will definitely pick it up once its properly patched and modded. I love me a Bethesda game.
There is already a mod that removes loading screens when landing on planets btw

Yeah I mean people finding bugs and glitches doesn't surprise me the least, that comes with the territory on a release like this. Luckily it's nowhere near as bad as something like Cyberpunk when it launched. It's not perfect, but it doesn't need to be right now. This is a very impressive game that I want to keep playing. There is just so much to see, and so much to discover.

I'm happy that the most toxic, confrontational, passive-aggressive and depressed poster on the Misc has found some happiness in his life for once. When Forza Motorsport releases in the next month, I hope OP can continue to experience the semblance of joy in his life he has found since the release of Starfield.
