Not sure I understand the statement. QD-OLED is new tech, just as MLED is, and the performance increase from its first year to second on the market is very significant.
I don't think you can go wrong buying a good MLED or QDOLED today. Of course, next year's models will always be better, but if you are always waiting and never buying, you are never enjoying.

From what I recall I don’t think nit brightness works linearly, meaning the brightness difference between 100nits versus 300nits is a lot more perceptible than 4000nits to 5000nits.
I also assume this 5000nits is in much smaller windows and specular highlights. HDTVest mentioned that real life brightness in many instances is still far brighter in terms of color volume, like for instance the sun in the sky produces 1.5 billion nits or something like that.

This is true
There is such a thing as too bright. If youre watching a movie in a dark room (which you should be if you claim to be a cinephile) you don't want insanely bright HDR highlights. It's just uncomfortable. You wouldn't look at the sun IRL so why would you want flash bang simulator on your TV.
Lightning struck a phone pole outside my house when I was looking out the window once and it legit blinded me for a few seconds, it's not fun13% do 52% AA's gonna AA

TCL surely isn't high end yet but LoL@ dismissing them these days with what they have been bringing to the market. Honestly if they could get their processor tech to catch up to their screen tech they'd be making the best TVs available, hands down. Are you the type of guy who still thinks Toyota makes crappy cars?

That's a really dumb statement.
Nobody is saying they are the most reliable. They are currently the Hyundai/Kia of the car world. Best bang for the buck, best specs and features when compared within their class. Will they compete outside of their class? No. Are they the most reliable? Probably not.
Most people like roller who would buy a QM8 probably isn't concerned with reliability as he is most likely going to buy a new TV before warranty ends anyway as tech is advancing every year. Same as most people buying a new Kia Telluride aren't keeping it past 100k miles. The reliability is completely irrelevant and only really effects resale value which isn't important to everyone.
