How long do dogs take to get over the fact that someone close in their life leaves them in your personal experience
I am a 28 year old man.
I got a Engineering degree, and then got a job as an engineer in our local town out of college( I was 26 at the time.) I live with my parents currently. I've been in this job for about 1.5 years now and am ready for a new job, so i'm going to start looking(already applied to a few, made my resume, etc. ) and move to a new city.
I have a strong relationship with my Maltese dog. He's not as close to to me as he is with my dad, but we are close. We play a lot after work , and he usually waits for me at the door.
When I leave I am afraid that he may go into a severe depression. Engineering jobs generally give you flexibility to do some remote work and what not, so I can visit from time to time, but I am afraid he won't be himself when I leave. Its not so much I miss him, i'm afraid that he will miss me.
In your experience, how long does it take for dogs to move on? Thoughts?
