is it is easy af to beat, but gives the illusion you have to actually figure stuff out and solve problems.
It is a false sense of accomplishment.
Think about it….
Even though it contains open world exploration, giving the illusion of choice in the plot, the story is very linear and you are constantly guided in the only direction.
The dungeons have some fun puzzles, but they do not take long to figure out.
Bosses become super easy once you figure out the one or two attacks they have.
It is easy af to beat. The hardest part sometimes is waiting. Waiting while you traverse Hyrule Field, while you drag blocks slowly, waiting for the owl to stop talking etc.
There are some parts that are difficult to figure out. For example dumping the fish in front of Jabu Jabu so he sucks you up. Nothing tells you to do that at all, you literally just have to keep throwing spaghetti at the wall to find the way in until you do this.
For the most part though, the answer is obvious, but hidden just enough to make it seem like you had to work for it.

A primary reason Ocarina of Time is so enjoyable….
I only read thread titles and my own posts.

I agree. Back then as a kid it was a big mind fuk. But now being older I can realize that it wasn't as hard as I thought or was as difficult as I was making it.

Feel like most of the people who didn't beat Ocarina of Time, either didn't play it a lot/like it, or just didn't spend a lot of time playing video games in general to have that natural game sense.
Going into a game like Ocarina is probably a lot more difficult if you've only played a couple games before. Think I was 12... 13 when it came out? But I had already beaten 3 Zelda games by that point plus god knows how many others so other than a few confusing dungeons, it was pretty easy, particularly the boss fights, which I was annoyed with being so lame even back then. Zelda franchise has been hamstrung by the Ocarina boss formula ever since.
I'll still take ALTTP over Ocarina as best Zelda game.*Dallas Cowboys Crew*

As mentioned above, the water temple was a nightmare, and everyone in my school was talking about it and sharing tips when the game first came out.
I've been seeing the past in one eye and the present in the other. So, I thought I could only see patches of reality, never the whole picture. I felt like I was watching a dream I could never wake up from. Before I knew it, the dream was over.

Funnily enough I'm doing a first play through of Ocarina of Time on my N64 right now - owned the game for like 5 years but never played it past the deku tree mission before.
Am really enjoying it much more this time now I'm not looking at a guide.
Looking at a guide makes it incredibly dull and uninteresting, but without the guide its truly fun and you can appreciate what they developed. Brings some challenge!B - 230

It was one of the first true 3D games. Imagine only playing 2D games and then getting that game. It was like riding a unicycle one day then flying a plane the next day
Also it wasn’t as common for families to have computer/internet access back then. When you got stuck in the game you either kept trying random chit until you figured it out, then maybe you asked someone at school the next day. Very different than now where it’s too tempting to look up an answer after getting stuck for 2 mins

I just beat it for this first time earlier this year playing on my switch.
I never got to beat it when I was younger. My older bro would always play and I would just have to watch/ help in the background lol.
I was actually thinking exactly what OP said. It’s actually pretty straightforward lol. But I also remembered a lot of stuff from when I was kid.
The fish thing was obvious to me, even back then. It was kinda a play on Jonah and the Whale from the bibble.
The water temple was incredibly frustrating. I don’t think I used a guide, but I had to call my friend and ask him wtf I was doing wrong, cuz he just replayed it as well.
