Anyone notice this people become "machiavellian" in Business?

I noticed that when you talk with co-workers and even more so with other professionals in a B2B sense, there is this unspoken verbal jousting that takes place. Basically it seems that people have conversation and there is a subtle "argument" or "one-upmanship" that takes place. This is not happening directly but kind of subtle, it's kind of hard for me to explain exactly so I am hoping others could chime in. I get the sense when communicating with others in business there is a constant dick-measuring / who's asserting their dominance in conversation constantly. I bet you Jordan Peterson or someone could talk more about this but it is almost if one someone goes into "work" all of a sudden a new personality takes over, and its a Machiavellian type of attitude.
