    Unhappy Gaining muscle + Losing fat during ED recovery?

    Hello,

    Right now, I just really need reassurance or something. Prior to this, I would only do HIIT workouts and cardio for hours, and constantly restricted my calories. As I increased my calories, I’ve been doing weightlifting for about 3 weeks. I’ve gained muscle, but I look like i’ve gained a LOT of fat as well. I’m starting to really stress about this. I know it’s only been 3 weeks, but I’m worried i’ll just continue to gain more and more fat. If I consistently weight train, will it eventually balance out?

    Not if you continue to eat as much as you currently are. And your lifting program (or lack thereof) probably isn't very good either. You don't have to go from one extreme of diet/training to another.

    How much weight have you gained in those 3 weeks? If you're gaining weight you are gaining fat as well, no way around that. If your goal is to get leaner you need to eat less so that you're losing about 1% of your bodyweight per week.
    All it takes is consistency, effort, proper nutrition, good programming, and TIME.

    Don't be upset with the results you didn't get from the work you did not do.

    I think OP previously had an eating disorder where he didn't eat enough so losing weight probably isn't the goal. It's likely best if he works with a therapist as he accomplishes his nutrition goals, especially to provide an outside perspective on the state of his body/health.

    Yeah I completely glossed over the "ED Recovery" part of the title. Oops!
