Depleted uranium may pose a risk to both soldiers and local civilian populations. When ammunition made from depleted uranium strikes a target, the uranium turns into dust that is inhaled by soldiers near the explosion site. The wind then carries dust to surrounding areas, polluting local water and agriculture.
Pieces of old armor and ammunition also pose a threat, particularly to local children playing on tanks and other military hardware made from depleted uranium. “The kids were playing on the tanks… and they were collecting the bullets,” explained Souad Al-Azzawi, an associate professor of environmental engineering at the Canadian University Dubai and former director of the doctoral program in environmental engineering at the University of Baghdad. “For some of the people, those bullets stayed in their houses for years. It was a disaster.”
That being said, there remains a strong possibility that depleted uranium has negative consequences on civilians. After all, depleted uranium is carcinogenic, and there is evidence to suggest that it may also impact hormones. A paper from the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that someone who inhales small, insoluble uranium particles may experience lung damage or lung cancer due to radiation. Depleted uranium may also lead to poor kidney functioning.
Although the research process is difficult, scholars have still been working to see if there is a link between depleted uranium and community health near conflict zones. Researcher Al-Azzawi cites studies showing that children’s leukemia cases increased by 60 percent between 1990 and 1997 and that birth defects tripled between 1990 and 1998 in Basra, Iraq. Basra experienced a stage of US bombings in response to the 1990 invasion of Kuwait. Al-Azzawi suggests that depleted uranium used during such conflicts is responsible for the rise in cancer and birth defects in the area.

Perhaps through the distorted Lens of an American who's brain has been shrivelled by lead water pipes and toxic food.
The reality is: The behaviour of the US is becoming more and more erratic; so much so that a large portion of the world considers you a rogue state.
The US appears to be struggling with the notion that it is being overtaken by China.
We are entering a period of a Thucydides trap. This is an apparent tendency towards war when an emerging power threatens to displace an existing great power.
The US is being displaced and crazy Americans are provoking war everywhere they can. Fortunately Russia will de-fang you before you can cause anymore chaos.

If you understood how tactically unsound pouring troops into the place after November was you'd care. But as usual and without regard for anyone else's life or well being, tens of thousands of Ukrainians are dead and dying from the foolish political decision to try to hold it. The remaining forces there are literally stuck and will either die or be captured. Wagner is a slow moving artillery wave on the defensive positions, taking little casualties. The force is in no hurry to take even a few feet. It is an impossible effort by Ukraine when they are so outmatched.
I'll never understand the cold bloodedness of some of you regarding men actually doing the fighting.
In all seriousness, do you have to be told by your media in order to get an understanding of the happenings on the battlefield?

They want to stay in Bakhmut because they see it as advantageous for them, if they didnt, they wouldve withdrawn already.
Could you link ONE post of yours where you were proven to be correct?
Respectfully, I cant take any of your predictions seriously because literally all of them have been horrendously wrong.MIKE TYSON: "When you see me smash somebody's skull, you'll enjoy it."

They can't hold it though. Right now it's of no use to either side. Only a matter of time before Russia controls it fully. All of the men dying to delay that date could be used to form the next defensive line, but now they're just fertilizing the soil. Very sad, to me at least. I know you chicken hawk nazi lovers give no fuks about their lives.

Bakhmut is done and has been done for weeks. Slamming bodies into it with no effect isn't up to me, I can only judge when it's tactically over.
Feel free to go back and read the very same statement regarding my assessment letting you know when it was unwinnable for Ukraine.

There's a counter offensive underway in the Krasna Hora direction. It's the only tactical avenue. It has a chance of working but is has to ramp up faster than it's going now. The men and equipment are there but there may not be enough time to stage enough strength and attack.
I'm waiting to see if VDV/Cossacks are enough or the 163 &/or the 102 get moved up.Homerotic Modulator, Envious of Idiocy

Are we pretending Europe isn't fukked? My country literally has 1,5 million people right now who cannot survive without getting food handouts from the government or charity. My parents' gas bill rose in 1 year from 100 euros a month to 1200 during last winter. Fukkin LMAO if you're pretending everybody is doing fine and Europe is feeling nothing from this whole gas crisis and dumb war.

Terrible argument. First, there has never been a time when “everybody is doing fine”, second its europes own fault for becoming overly dependent on a singular source for somethng as crucial as energy in place of promoting its own production.
Whos fault is it that europe decided to “go green bro” and take a **** on its own energy sectors?
Whos fault is it the partner europe chose to become dependent on was a known ticking time bomb? How long was europe warned about precisely this?
Finally, these predictions of western collapse are getting old af. Relax. Go ride your bike back to your canal boathouse or whatever you guys do in the netherlands, everything will be fine. Europe has been through much much worse than this.

There was a line in the sand drawn over the last 8 years. Bakhmut was Ukraine's largest city closest to the fighting east of that line. West of there, on the Donbas militia side you have Donetsk City. Both were extremely fortified.
Behind Bakhmut to the east you have much the smaller towns of Chasiv Yar, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk where the military headquarters/garrison resides.
After Chasiv Yar there is no staging node for combat. Kramatorsk and Sloviansk will likely be attacked simultaneously if not first by the Lyman direction if it breaks first. There only long open roads and small towns behind it which opens up the remainder of the oblast and the next all the way to the Dnieper River and on to Kiev. It's disastrous if Russia intends to go that far.
"We understand that after Bakhmut they could go further. They could go to Kramatorsk, they could go to Sloviansk, it would be open road for the Russians after Bakhmut to other towns in Ukraine, in the Donetsk direction," -Zelensky

I think I wrote about this a while ago but anyone can say it's not strategic all day long but for Ukraine it is tactical death and may signal the end of the war.Homerotic Modulator, Envious of Idiocy
