    Ordered a Challenger boyos

    Just placed an order for a 2023 Challenger "Body-in-white" in Plum Crazy Purple. The plan is to build a 8 second drag car. It should be sweet. From what I was told through Direct Connection, less than 25 of these have been ordered so they will be pretty much vaporware in the future.

    Why not just buy a used redeye?

    You're gonna be close to 100k when it's all said and done and have nothing to show for it imo. With no vin and not being street legal..gonna lose your ass on it when/if you need to sell. You can buy a used a demon for 125k and spend another 10k and be high 8's.

    Why would you build a drag car but not make it daily driveable?

    Daily drivers these days can run 8s if built right. What op is doing doesn't make sense unless he really wants a 'built' not bought car. But even then these new cars a very modifiable. A Hellcat would need a lot of self built mods to run 8s.


    This guy can daily drive his Supra and I runs 7s

    Those things are completely impractical unless you have good access to a personal tuner shop. Tons of constant maintenance on cars like that, parts are always breaking or needing replacement. High powered drag cars aren't built for longevity.

    That, and all of the cars I have seen that run that fast are a real handful to drive, and tend to be highly compromised when it comes to handling. It's about as much of a street car as a La Ferrari. I mean yeah, it's technically street legal, but you wouldn't want to be using it as a street car most of the time. Some crazy asses might, but they're crazy.

    That, and as good as MKIV Supras are, they're really overpriced these days.

    But A Dodge Demon runs 9s and defies everything you said. How many modified Hellcats & Demons are breaking down?

    Are you just talking about old cars like the Supra? I mean I don't know the guy but from watching his videos he hasn't had many problems and can daily drive.

    There are plenty of well known tuners out there, and what you're talking about are guys (like me) that are building high compression engines with big cams that don't mind sacrificing street manners for a no boost beast.

    Boost is the answer to all of the problems you think these cars have. Low compression and low boost off idle and cruising rpms allow cars to be streetable while running insane times like low 8s and high 7s.

    The guy just isn't documenting everything lol, tons of work needs to go into those cars. Heck even modified cars with half that power need a lot of work from time to time, anyone who modifies cars knows it's something you're always needing to keep on top of with a lot of expense.

    Depends really, the easier to drive boosted cars tend to be less aggressive, and the more aggressive boosted cars are a lot harder to drive. With an old turbo car like MKIV Supras, turbo lag is usually a thing. That and the really powerful drag setups aren't really setup for drivable street boost, turbos have come a long way but they still need to be spooled up. Superchargers tend to be the most drivable for basic street modified FI setups, instant power low down and they aren't so hard on parts like turbos can be when it all kicks in.

    I think a lot of people can also get jaded with their modified cars, being so in tune with them, not realizing how much of a handful and headache they could be for someone else.
